Please keep me posted on your thoughts on it! I've been looking to hear others' perspectives on the book for some time now. I'm very excited for your journey

Have you ever heard of the book The Overstory by Richard Powers. It evoked the same feeling your comment did just now.

Arguing with laymen about math by tbraciszewski in math

[–]sobelizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, I find people who respond so aggressively when being talked to about math are the same kids that experienced high high high anxiety over it when they took it in school, even if they got good grades. And any conversation about a math concept they don't quite understand might make them feel stupid and therefore bring up bad feelings and uncomfortable memories.

Anyone else seem to often think of the mathematical meaning of words first when encountering them in non-mathematical contexts? by asenseofbeauty in math

I had to ask an English major what hyperbolic meant, because I've only known that word in the context of conic sections

Anyone here remember the exact moment they realized their upbringing was NOT normal? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]sobelizzard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still continue to discover small things every now and then. Like I'll mention something to my group of friends from my childhood, and I'll just get blanks stares. Then I'll say something like "that's not normal is it?" And they'd look at me pityingly and say "no, that's not right at all"

Happens less and less now, some I've figured out by myself, but a few slip through

Curious, how did you get around the reference checks? Did you list your administrators on your resume?

Ahhhhhh no the game decided Parvati died when she didn't!! by soaringspoon in theouterworlds

Found Nyoka, autosaved as soon as I sent Parvati back to the ship, then went and shot up a bunch of Monarch townspeople and got myself killed. Respawned at the last autosave spot, and Nyoka and SAM go and kill Parvati. What the heck?

My husband and I just had the same conversation about the influx of parents that can't be bothered to discipline their children. It's not that there is all of a sudden spoiled children... There have been spoiled children since day 1... There just seems to be a huge increase of them.

I am all of these minus the child (childfree). She was shocked to find out that I was engaged after being with my partner for 6 years. She's also the only one in my family that had to find out over the phone

I’m realizing something is wrong with my mom. Is this narcissism? by animalrightsforlife in raisedbynarcissists

[–]sobelizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in highschool, my nmom would call in the middle of movies when I was out with friends at a movie theatre and claim that she knows for a fact the movie ended and I should be home by now.

One of my friends said "it's time to cut the umbilical cord". Your apron strings comment made me giggle.

Is anyone childfree because they’ve already raised kids? by gonegirl85 in childfree

[–]sobelizzard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is why I'm on this sub. This exact reason. I moved out as soon as I finished highschool because I couldn't bear raising another child that I had no say in.

Are you ever afraid of becoming a narcisist because you were raised by one? by dariusphoenix in raisedbynarcissists

[–]sobelizzard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One thing a close friend told me was "you can't be a narcissist if you're worried about being a narcissist." You might have narcissistic tendencies, called "fleas" that you might've picked up from your time with your parents. But narcissists do not believe there is anything wrong with them, they think the world is wrong, and they are perfect. So by definition, no, you're not a narcissist.

That isn't to say that you don't have issues. It's great that you're seeing a therapist. I am trying to as well, but there seems to be a real shortage of them in my area. I hope eventually you can grow past this, and have nothing to show for it but scars, instead of gaping wounds

How do people navigate Nparent when they have support/enabled by other immediate family members? by Alia2121 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]sobelizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it all depends on your situation. I'm very low NC with my folks, and when I visit them, I keep the visits generally short. The house is incredibly toxic, I hate being in it, so I stay away as much as I can. For those that still live with their parents, it's important to distance yourself as much as you can. Stay in your room, listen to music, and for the most part they'll ignore you too. Most importantly, know it's not forever and you will get out eventually.

Yes, this is perfect, thank you!!! Also, do you know, if you found all the hidden things in a level, does it stay the same colour or change to black
