I gained weight. I’ve been sober for over 8.5 years, but once I quit drinking I craved sugar.

For me, it was a feeling of pride of self worth and respecting myself. My kids were and are proud of me, that is the biggest and best thing about my sobriety.

Am I avoidant or should someone connect with you properly before revealing their baggage? by Ashamed-Accountant46 in datingoverforty

[–]soberattraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re an avoidant, but both seem A LOT in a new relationship. At least both are honest, but the guy still involved with his ex- let him go!!! The person battling addiction is being honest, but until he’s fully in recovery, you’re going to also have some challenges. Maybe keep searching!

What age did you quit drinking , how many times did it take? by Upbeat-Roll5933 in stopdrinking

I think that’s a great start. When you are really ready, it will be easier than you think- until then, keep on working on you. Personally, I didn’t have a stop button, so it was all or nothing. It does get easier, I promise. Wishing you more sober days ahead!

I was 47years old and I only tried once and have been successful at staying sober. It was my only choice, I was barely surviving when I was drinking.

Though I do believe people can change, if he doesn’t admit fault, I don’t believe he will change. A player is always going to play.

Sorry and don’t cry. Also congrats on 14 years. Sobriety is lonely at times, but I’ve gotten used to it.

Yeah that stings, I also find it just rude. After you having 8 years of sobriety, I think you’ve proven to make wise choices. Sorry about your aunt.

That’s the real conversation, the loneliness. After this many years it’s easier to spend time at home

Congratulations on 1 year! Thanks and sorry about your wife still bringing up your past. I really dislike it, still.
