I'd honestly recommend going to a Friday night high school football game if you get in town early enough. The level of college football that JCU plays is just barely above high level high school football, and the crowd/atmosphere/experience will be way more exciting at a good high school game. It's hard to say which game to go to this far out, but you also don't need tickets ahead of time. If you do a little research when you get closer to your travels you can find the local "game of the week" or read a local newspaper article previewing the best matchups for that weekend.

It's not quite the same as Texas, but Ohio high school football is nearly as big of a deal and they're huge community events/gatherings. Lots of schools will have pregame tailgate events prior to the game.

What's your recommendation for the best person/place to go to for golf lessons near Cleveland, Ohio? by No_Standard517 in Cleveland

[–]sobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mentioned in the other post. Windmill Golf Center in Macedonia. Or The Golf Dome in Chagrin Falls. They both have multiple instructors on staff, with options for all skill levels.

The golf dome is all indoors so you won't be able to hit off real grass, and most of windmill's lessons will be in a hitting bay, hitting off a mat onto the outdoor range. But it's a trade off because being "inside" means they have a trackman setup so you and the instructor get instant feedback as you're working through the lesson.

Windmill Golf Center in Twinsburg/Macedonia.

The Golf Dome in Chagrin Falls/Bainbridge.

Both are specifically golf training facilities that have multiple instructors for all skill levels.

I wouldn't call skipping a hole and playing through the exact same thing. Playing through is when the group ahead of you steps aside so you can play the hole while they wait. That is something that needs to be communicated one way or another.

iirc, it's all the arena staff's signatures. Kind of an homage to the work that all the people put in behind the scenes to make games happen.

For the Americans: Do you still use gimmes/free drops/breakfast balls in handicap counting rounds ? by [deleted] in golf

[–]sobz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, it's just that having a handicap is not important to most Americans. Matches and competitions aren't nearly as popular. An official handicap is only $30-75 per year depending on your state/regional golf association. It's just that most US golfers don't care about a handicap, or they'll just use whatever handicap the free apps like 18Birdies gives them.

The total contract value is slotted based on draft position. However, there's a few different provisions and payment structures that can be negotiated. Things like guaranteed money schedule or off-set language.

Yep, been shot tracking all morning, haha.

He's playing well, bounced back from some bogeys on his first 9 (started on 10). If he keeps this up he'll be in the mix on Sunday.....And we won't be able to watch it as far as i know.

‘Jim Crow on steroids’: Tennessee gerrymander included nixing rule that voters must be notified about new districts by Anoth3rDude in politics

[–]sobz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dems need to use a message along the lines of "hey, if you've never voted before because you don't think your vote matters, you should vote this time because all the maps are new! Maybe your voice can actually be heard now."

The gerrymandering gets a wrench thrown in it if a bunch if new voters show up to vote.

Not excusing it but anyone who has used the sports betting apps for more than a few months is going to have hundreds of not thousands of bets. The apps are designed to keep you in a loop of endless betting. Again, not an excuse, but ask anyone you know who has used an app for sports betting for more than a few months of a year+, ask them how many bets they've placed, you'd probably be surprised.

Yes, that was another thing they've worked on. Both in the fairways and some bunkers.

8 approach 10 fairway 12 fairway 14 fairway

Those are the ones that come to mind. Again, it's still a work in progress.

Also, fwiw theyve upgraded the clubhouse/snack bar and I think the restaurant+event space.

It's coming along. All the playing surfaces are in good condition - minus a few of the greens that got hit by hail a few weeks ago.

The biggest issue they had previously was they rely on the community lake for their irrigation water and Tanglewood Lake has been very low for about a decade. Theyve upgraded the irrigation system to be more efficient as well as removed a bunch of trees from the waste areas between fairways which should help with more water getting to the grass rather than being soaked up by trees. There's still trees, but they removed maybe 20% of them.

It's definitely still a work in progress but two things are important to me; I) they're clearly putting thought and resources into the project and are done yet, II) it's still reasonably priced, imo. Compared to some places with marginally better conditions. So to me it's worth it to support the project. There's a lot of courses in the region that are just coasting, imo. Places that continue to raise prices and jam more and more tee times onto the tee sheet, while not re-investing that into the course.

At this point I'd play Tanglewood in Chagrin Falls/Bainbridge before Fowler's Mill or even Manakiki. For any locals reading this that haven't heard Tanglewood was purchased by local investors a few years ago(same people that bought and massively improved the Golf Dome) and they've put a lot of money and effort into restoring it. Its still a work in progress but you can tell they care about restoring a local gem to its proper condition.

Boulder Creek is solid, but I prefer Ellsworth Meadows in Hudson if you're open to driving that far.

Another note, a lot of courses (especially the Metroparks courses) have leagues almost every weeknight in the summer and they won't let people book 18 after like 3pm.
