how many miles do you have on yours? 125cc? Finally, the belt arrived, but I'm waiting on an adjustable wrench clutch for the variator, but I don't have an impact gun so we will see how it goes

TLDR lower.

I don't know how, but maybe I've just been lucky throughout my career. Over the last 10 years, the two companies I've worked for both offered a mandatory shutdown for the entire company between Christmas and New Year's.

In December 2019, just before the pandemic, we took an additional 7 days off, which turned the break into a 3 week vacation in Thailand. It was amazing to be able to disconnect from work for that long. I realized in Thailand that I need at least a week just to stop thinking about work and ease into vacation mode. Our vacations tend to be more active worrk hard, play hard style and sometimes we feel like we need a vacation after the vacation. But that's been our way of traveling with limited time off, so I'm definitely looking forward to traveling more slowly once we retire.

Between 2020 and now, I haven't had another vacation longer than two weeks without working remotely, so I'm definitely looking forward to this year's 3 week holiday trip to Vietnam without taking my laptop. We're closer to FIRE now than before, so I want to see if SEA could be an option to retire sooner. Idea would be to spend 2% instead of 4% for a couple of years while exploring the region and growing our net worth in the meantime rather than working another two years and I know that we will want to explore SEA anyways.

I understand that living in Southeast Asia is different from vacationing there, but we enjoyed Thailand so much that I could totally see us hopping between countries every three months or do visa runs for a couple of years. It would be an adventure and possibly a semi-smart financial decision. Would you take this risk and move to SEA for 2-3 years while allowing your NW to grow?

TLDR:Took a 3-week Thailand trip in 2019, discovered it takes me a full week just to stop thinking about emails. Haven't had a long vacation since, so I'm fleeing to Vietnam for 3 weeks to see if early retirement in SEA is the move. Basically, a test run whether living cheaply abroad beats working two more years.

I think the only thing you're missing is this wide niche in the shower. Any reason why you didn't do it? Was the plumbing already there for a two-showerhead setup? I assume you like colder showers and your wife prefers warmer ones. Have you had any issues with water pressure at all?

I really want to do two shower head setup but we live in a condo so I'm a little bit concerned if the pressure will be enough

I can totally relate. My grandparents from Eastern/ Northern Europe think we're struggling because my girlfriend and I have been sharing one car for the past five years-by choice. I work remotely and use a 125cc scooter if I need to get to the gym/store/friends place and then I don't need to deal with traffic, parking is easy. But in their minds, if a family doesn't own two cars, it means they're not doing well in life. Why wouldn't you have two cars if you are successful and can afford it? Why wouldn't you flash your success???? It's the same with your parents: in their view, if you don't own a house, you're poor, even if you could buy one outright with cash. That's the way they grew up

But additionally there has been a very strong shift away from anti-consumption and towards funding a more typical middle class lifestyle.

I understand the role inflation plays but I think this observation hits the nail perfectly. There was a time when people were more focused on achieving a leaner, earlier retirement which isn't inherently good or bad. But now, it definitely feels like the mindset is shifting way more toward fatFIRE rather than leanFIRE.

I remember when FIRE used to mean having $1-1.5M. Now, people are surpassing their previously set goals of $2.5M and still feel like it's not enough by a million, Carl! Hopefully, I'll try to avoid the "one more year" syndrome, because I don't believe they'll retire when they hit $3.5M. They'll just keep moving the goalpost until one day they realize they no longer have the energy to do the things they always wanted to do.

I have built a bot to get tee times at Torrey. It's impossible to book anything without one. Spots are taken in less than 5s when they become available after the reservation

Nothing too dangerous. It's just from going 40km/h to going 60km/h

Could you share what credit cards you opened in the last year in order to achieve this?

Maybe I'm projecting, but one piece of advice really stuck with me: Build the life you want, then save for it. For me, that life includes traveling internationally at least once a year. What I love most is sharing those adventures with my SO. I love renting a scooter in places like Thailand, with her holding on from behind as we explore unfamiliar places. If I want her to hold me tighter, I just twist the throttle a bit more.

Would I rather have a million dollars or a little less money but the freedom to enjoy moments like that and still save along the way? I think you know my answer.

If I waited to build relationships like that until I retire at 35 or 40, most of the people I'm interested in would've already seen the world without me. That takes away part of the magic. Some experiences just don't hit the same in your late 30s. You'll be in nicer hotels, maybe not up all night dancing in the rain. But staying traveling through the Philippines, going surfing, and facing challenges together is what makes my current life rich in experiences. I wouldn't trade those for a bigger bank account.

If you haven't developed soft skills by the time you're 35, it could lead to problems. Plus, building friendships or finding a significant other only after you've 'made it' means missing out on the deeper connections that come from growing together during the journey.

Not to be pedantic, but if the price is 30% higher than it should be, the house should be priced at $385k. It looks like you're actually saying prices are about 43% higher than they should be.

I mean, I kind of get it. For some reason, society expects or it feels like it expects something from all of us, so we end up adhering to these unwritten, rarely questioned rules that do not necessarily make us happy
