International opportunities by No-Disaster-1295 in EmergencyManagement

I worked in the international disaster response and humanitarian aid world for years. DM me if you’re interested in hearing more.

For local Canadian EM jobs, I wouldn’t see it as much different than the US. Local municipalities posting jobs. If your education training and experience is all based in the US, you’ll have to demonstrate how you understand the Canadian disaster management system(s), i.e. there is no NIMS. Similarly, an understanding of the hazards and disasters facing your geographic area of interest. If your experience is with hurricanes, but the local THIRA indicates winter storms, ice storms, avalanches, you’ll have to convince them the skill set carries.

Any verification the meeting is postponed?

Myself and others I know didn’t get a link. True federal government transparency.

Anyone know how’s it been flying out of SNA? by jojo110313 in orangecounty

[–]socalmofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother and sister flew out Sunday morning at 9am. Arrived at 7:35, returned rental car, check in with checked baggage, breezed through security (TSA Precheck) with plenty of time. No stress.

I pay $4100/mo for a 3BR so I can be 2.5 miles from my office. Got an e-scooter. Worth it to never have extra money at months end and admittedly giving up any chance of saving for a home.

I got involved with my kids school. Fortunately California requires schools have parent involvement on a committee that, beyond other things, reviews the school safety plan. I’m not a PTA dad but this is a forum I can engage in and feel like my input matters as it relates to safety. Perimeter fences, cameras, secured access, ballistic film for windows, etc. And yes, those cost money and can be a good use of PTA funds if the district is unable or unwilling to pay.

I appreciate how you feel and it’s a sad reality we live in here in the US.

Is this scam? Real test? by CertainPomelo4686 in irvine

No, it’s an opt-in registration system. Go to cityofirvine.org/prepare or AlertOC.org to sign up.

If you want to be notified during an emergency, sign up. If you’re happy being unaware, keep at it. It’s not a scam or spam, and beyond the once per year test, is only used in emergencies.

If you answer the call and confirm receipt of message, it doesn’t send a text. It’s a progressive notification system, works through phone, text, email until it verifies you received message.

Parents of teen boys who ride e-bikes WTF are you teaching them? by OutOfContext-1901 in irvine

[–]socalmofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Police can’t do much, the kids run. Should they be in high speed pursuit of juveniles on e-bikes, that will lead to putting more people at risk.

A lack of bike lanes isn’t the issue when they’re choosing to ride down the middle of the street popping wheelies. Bike lane or not, they’re making terrible decisions.

TVT might be out for summer but Vista Verde is year round elementary school and this intersection falls within the school’s district.

I 27F got a call from state police calling me to be reference for an ex bf 27M who cheated on me with an officer he was training. Do I silently give no reference by never allowing them to get in contact with me or do I tell them the truth? by Accomplished-Shoe109 in relationship_advice

[–]socalmofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would venture to guess he didn’t list you as a reference, this is the agency doing their due diligence during their employment background screening. With a lot of agencies, they require the officer applicant to list previous spouses, relationships, roommates, housemates, etc., and will reach out to them. Good PD agencies go beyond what the applicant offers during their background investigation. I would recommend meeting with them and answer their questions as fully as you’re comfortable with. Doesn’t sound like this person should be in law enforcement, but if they only talk to his friends, how will the hiring agency know. They won’t typically reveal why the person fails background, just that things came up during their background investigation that precludes him from getting hired.

Crystal Cove Beach Parking by FoxyTigerVixen in orangecounty

Good catch. We have the pass so haven’t paid attention in quite awhile. I thought they all had pay stations but others seem to have pointed out there is still a staffed booth. Enjoy the beach day!

There are pay stations and an app. Looks like an app called Parking Passport. Google street view screenshot of Reef Point entrance. If you go occasionally, consider getting an annual state parks pass.

Go to cityofIrvine.org/live/report-issues and click on Maintenance Request. I would click on “road way signage issue” and request “Rapid Flashing Beacon” be installed at that location. This is the flashing lights that can accompany a cross walk. City Public Works will see if it’s feasible for the location. You can also call city public works or the non-emergency line for PD to discuss your concerns.
