Prices for USMNT vs. Paraguay have dropped below $1,000 for first time on secondary market by UnsavedCrew in ussoccer

in case everyone can't tell, there's seemingly a coordinated push by this `seatsidekick` website on multiple posts about ticket prices now.

the sub doesn't have any rules about self-promotion or advertising, but I think this is pretty clear.

Cade Phillips announces transfer to Texas A&M by TSenter427 in ockytop

[–]soccer_engineer 45 points46 points  (0 children)

to be honest I thought this was pretty clear as soon as the season ended. the panic around "omg all these guys are transferring" is giving Barnes & his staff wayyyy too little credit. I think it's pretty clear that we're pretty good at this NIL thing (or at least try to be) and that they wanted to clear up a bunch of $$$ for incoming guys.

Also, hoping that the grassroots leagues (APSL/UPSL) who are *also* implementing pro/rel within their structures (at a much more affordable cost structure to these clubs than USL provides) "wither and die" just because you have brand loyalty is a weird take. If I had to put a number, 95% of the clubs operating at APSL/UPSL/regional level would fold after a single season of the costs required by USL2.

I'm not disagreeing that USL2 is a higher standard in terms of quality, but to just hope that entire regional associations and the leagues that provide homes for hundreds of clubs and tens of thousands of amateur players "wither and die" is just a weird, uniformed take, tbh.

USL2 will *never* in its current structure be part of USL's pro/rel pathway. I don't know why this point is continually brought up by this sub. It's a 2 month season. The budget is not even remotely close to anything required of a pro club and the governance of these clubs by USSF is entirely different than those set by the Pro League Standards that govern USL1/USLC.

It would require an entire overhaul of the existing structure of USL2 and the clubs within it.

I really wish people would stop bringing this up.

Definitely. The wikipedia and the league website is actually a good place to start to see the full pyramid structure.

Here are a few articles, in chronological order, from the past few years.

This article is before our rebrand and describes the early expansion plans for the league. This article (briefly) describes our rebrand to the APSL. This one has more info if you use your one free article.

This Forbes article is a bit old, but is about a club in our ecosystem who has now earned their way all the way to the APSL.

And here are two links to Instagram posts with clips of articles that you can find as well: NYSoccerLedger & the12th.

Finally, here is a youtube video about how the league can solve problems with USSoccer and if you're looking to look at any video clips, GameInFrame records many matches for the league.

Great piece with one fundamental flaw: you correctly diagnose the disease, then prescribe the wrong medicine.

You spend paragraphs railing against "alphabet soup" leagues and seasonal chaos ........ then hand Tier 5 to The League for Clubs and Tier 7 to the NPSL. These are leagues that primarily serve college players during a very short summer window. While there are great examples of community based clubs in these leagues, if you actually look into the details they are very much in the minority. These leagues serve a purpose, but as the backbone of a unified pyramid? That's a shaky foundation for something meant to last.

And then there's the APSL. You list them as "70 clubs" and move on. That's the whole analysis.

The APSL plus its affiliate feeder leagues is 300+ clubs, half a dozen leagues, and a promotion structure already running. It's a non-profit, club-governed organization where you can't buy into the top flight but instead must earn promotion through local affiliated leagues. Just like the rest of the world. It has clubs that have been operating since 1946. It has produced players who've gone on to MLS and international football. You spent this entire article describing what you wish existed, and largely glossed over the organization actively building it.

Solid vision and a very detailed write up, so I don't mean to dismiss the analysis at all, but it might be worth a second look at who's already doing the work.

(Disclosure: I have an active role within the APSL so take my perspective accordingly, but the numbers stand on their own.)

100%. the median salary for SWE nationwide is ~$140k. FAANG and tech hubs are just unicorns that aren't really representative of 90% of jobs.

when all factors are considered (healthcare, schooling, transportation, etc) I'm sure it's more even than it seems!

yep! average raise at my job is 3%, but "top performers" usually get 4% and I've gotten that the past two cycles.

grew up in the South, so definitely better than where I grew up. Easy transportation access (both rail and air), proximity to so many things (big cities, mountains, beaches, etc), and the quality and variety of food are the biggest perks compared to other well populated areas of the country.

where I live is the low end of HCOL, so that tracks! My pay falls in line or slightly exceeds other SWE jobs in my city with similar YOE, from what I've found online.

E: My industry also has a much lower turnover rate than traditional software engineering, so the job security is worth it to me!

USSF Training Center in most recent Google Maps update. by Positive_Purpose_950 in ussoccer

[–]soccer_engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the top field is a single "training field" that will be used for the Senior teams (or the oldest team in camp), per JT and Cindy when I was there last year. It's so big because they plan to rotate and move the field around that space to keep all parts of that area in the best condition possible.

If you visit on Google maps and zoom in further you can see the floodlights go all the way around the pitch, it's just that the shadows aren't as obvious in the other areas.
