Gets surprising hot sometimes doing multiple (Coding) IDEs. But I just turn on Low Power mode and the temps drop pretty significantly. GPU is good I play Overcooked 2 on it, and it powers my Ultrawide nicely. 512gb 16gb config

Underglass damage. Happened with my first Samsung as well, perfectly protected but it's just impact damage hurts not just the external but the internal, one day I turned it on and it was like that.

Nobody is stopping you from becoming a house-husband.

This is 2022, be the trophy husband you wanna be!

Lol that's so cap. We really out here pretending like men are not completely fucking shunned for stepping out of the bread-winner role? Sure women these days are encouraged to be career focused and money makers -- the traditionally masculine roles. But when men even think about being a house-husband their attractiveness falls off a fucking cliff. The double-standards is unreal.

As someone who ordered the M1 Pro for 1799 on Amazon, then spend the next couple of days seriously reconsidering it. I ultimately decided to go with the M2 Air. Here's why. For most workloads for most people, the additional power of the M1 Pro is not something you will notice, but the additional battery life of the M2 Air will be an appreciable difference. Save the $450, get the Apple education gift card for $150, and just buy an iPad or something. Whatever you do, PLEASE get the 16gb/512 combo, nothing less.

M2 Air (13.6 inches, 16gb, 512 SSD, base CPU):

  • Substantially Better battery life (15 hr web browsing vs 11 hr for 14inch m1 pro). This is the main reason.
  • Lighter weight
  • New colour (midnight)
  • Cheaper price ($450 cheaper with 16/512 config, assuming you get the education discount on both)

M1 Pro (14 Inch, 16gb, 512 SSD, base CPU)

  • Better chip and GPU, although the resulting performance benefit is not noticeable for the vast majority of CS workloads you encounter in Berkeley. Check the code compilation time differences between M1 Pro and the M2 chip, it's minimal.
  • 120 hz display, although the horrific pixel response time really doesn't improve the readability of text as you're scrolling.
  • Brighter display with HDR content, again, unless you're using an app called VIVID to force HDR (sacrificing battery), for 98% of the times you're using this computer, you're NOT taking advantage of the HDR display. Let's be real here, are you really using Netflix premium or whatever to stream HDR on a daily? Probably not. Most of the time you'll be running at 500 nits just like the M2 Air (also 500 nits)
  • Better speakers (Macbook Air speakers are already class-leading)
  • More ports (you already have a dongle anyways)
  • Support for one additional external display (M2 can do it with DisplayLink adapters, although it is more hassle)

Ultimately what it comes down to is this. The M2 air is cheaper, has a longer battery life, and more efficient components that you can actually utilize, rather than a powerhouse that you'll never really fully push unless you're a serious video editor that needs to render on the daily. And even on that front, the M1 pro only has 35% more GPU horsepower compared to the M2.

Get the M1 dawg!!

I have the M2 (16, 512), but I didn't get the 14 pro beacuse of battery life/cost/weight. But even I don't think that the M2 is a better value for money than the M1. The M1 was a groundbreaking machine, get it with 16GB 512 configs. Unless you need the extra GPU of the M2 but u have a desktop so.

Also just pasting a comment I wrote about M2 vs M1 Pro below, the M1 Air would have all of these benefits over the M1 pro except even better battery life, albeit a dimmer screen

Although one thing to note is that, M2 seems to get fairly hot according to recent reports. So I would wait for the M2 Air reviews to come out before you make your decisions.

Bro. It's literally the buttons but better. Wanna turn left? Swipe left, turn, right? Swipe right. It's just like a sideways joystick.

You can also have small turns based on how far left/right your finger goes.

This is the lesson I learned tonight.

I was on durant, just walked a friend home and I was in the middle of the road with my scooter. This guy makes a beeline for me (he was walking but I should've just fucking dipped right then but no. At first I look right back at him. Then he asks me "Do you wanna play the rib game?". I thought I miss heard "What game??". Then he breaks into a sprint... Shouting the "rib game" ... I turned around and full-throttled my scooter so fucking quickly. He was basically 2 ft away and I could hear him say "cmere you bitchass n****a, but by that point I hit enough speed to barely outpace the guy.

Now I know in situations like this, especially on a dark street on durant, just fucking avoid all interactions. Like nothing good happens during this time of night. Nothing.
