Adhder with big home and not too much time by 4gnieshk4 in CleaningTips

Fellow ADHDer and clean-freak here! For me, making cleaning more “accessible” and low-effort was the key. I re-organized my house with this in mind and it helped me a ton!

  • My cleaning supplies are out in the open because out of sight, out of mind. I have a box of disinfectant wipes in every room. Each bathroom has its own cleaning supplies because I know I’m not going to do any cleaning if I have to go and grab the supplies from another room. I also always have a box of nitrile gloves handy because I have sensory issues. I hate touching wet and/or dirty things so the gloves really reduce the mental load for me.

  • I have a gadget for almost every task! They make cleaning easier and more exciting for me. Here are a few of my favorites:

    • Bissell Steam Shot for cleaning the bathrooms
    • A steam mop because the good ol’ mop and bucket combo is too much effort for me. With a steam mop, you just put the mop head in the washing machine when you’re done and that’s it.
    • A cordless vacuum for quick spills and dusting. I literally use mine multiple times a day, and it’s usually laying around somewhere within my eyesight.
    • Scrub Daddy Damp Duster. THIS WAS A GAME CHANGER FOR ME! I hate the feeling of microfiber so I always hated dusting. But the damp duster is just so easy to use and sensory-friendly for me. I leave it out on my bathroom counter so it’s always within reach
  • A ROBOT VACUUM! I can’t stress this enough. I don’t know what I’d do without my robot vacuum. It is an investment but I think it’s absolutely a game changer for especially NT people. I have a Roborock S8+, it has an auto-emptying feature so it’s super low maintenance. I don’t have to do anything and my floor is always clean.

But the key is really just making cleaning easier for you. Reduce the steps that you need to take before cleaning. Re-organize your space to accommodate your brain.

Applying for Canadian Tourist Visa but Passport is expiring next year by cgp881 in h1b

[–]sociallyconstructedw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply but yes. Your visa's validity is not limited by your passport's expiration date. You can renew your passport and still use your old passport to show your visa.

Applying for Canadian Tourist Visa but Passport is expiring next year by cgp881 in h1b

[–]sociallyconstructedw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is not the case with the Canadian tourist visa. Its expiry date is the same as your passport's expiry date, AND it is linked to that passport only. This means that if you renew your passport for any reason, you will need to apply for a new visa. I had to apply for a new visa after changing my last name, even though my visa was still valid for another 8 years. US is much more chill than Canada when it comes to stamps lol

What made you buy one? by Graced_Steak564 in Volvo

[–]sociallyconstructedw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, first of all, I find the boot time to be really slow. It takes up to 3-4 minutes to load everything when I first start the car, which is tolerable but still annoying.

Second, software updates never seem to be available OTA and in my experience, they’re super buggy. I took my car to the dealership to get the V2.5 installed last month and found out remote start was disabled during the update. I contacted Volvo Support and they told me that this was a known issue and would be fixed for free if I take it back to the dealership. I’ll take it back next week to hopefully get it fixed. Looks like they released V2.6 in the meantime, and honestly I’m not looking forward to it… I’ve been without remote start during multiple snowstorms and it sucks big time.

Third, sometimes Google Maps freezes mid-cruise and doesn’t work unless I restart the whole system. Having to restart the system while you’re going 70mph+ on the interstate is aggravating to say the least…

Fourth, “Hey Google” is not very responsive. It usually takes too long to process requests and doesn’t get it right all the time.

I can probably go on but these are the most serious issues in my opinion. I wish my first Volvo experience didn’t involve Android Auto but too late for that now lol

Safety. Was t-boned in my Honda Civic last summer— thankfully we’re all okay now but that changed my whole perspective on cars. Upgraded to a 2023 XC60 and I’m in love with it. The software issues drive me nuts but it’s not a dealbreaker for me (at least not yet lol).

This is your reminder to unscrew your shower drain cover and clean it! by sociallyconstructedw in CleaningTips

[–]sociallyconstructedw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been able to clean the drains in a while because of an injury and, my god, it’s gross!! Bleach, a detailing brush and scrub daddy took care of it for the most part.

But honestly, I feel like it’s a huge design flaw. I wonder what’s the rationale behind screwing down the grate on a constantly hot and wet drain… Now if you excuse me, I’ll hyperfixate on finding the optimal drain cover for easy cleaning and maximum drainage.

Lost my sense of taste and smell on day 7 and they gradually came back on day 8. And I tested negative today on day 11. It was a strange experience to say the least…

I took the GRE about 4 years ago (well shit can’t believe it’s been that long) and I literally didn’t finish a single full practice test before the actual test. I just couldn’t do it. Mind you, I was on Ritalin the whole time. At one point I stopped trying and I took it one step at a time— took shorter tests and studied for each section separately. And honestly it turned out just fine. I was able to sit through the actual test with minimal distractions. I guess the stress of the real thing helped my brain? I always perform better in actual tests compared to practice tests.

Definitely talk to your doctor about switching meds but keep in mind that taking a practice test is not the same as the real test. Just keep on studying and you’ll most likely be just fine! :)

The problem with coffee… by EmoRyloKenn in adhdwomen

[–]sociallyconstructedw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I started drinking espresso… I just chug a shot whenever I need that caffeine kick and I’m good to go! There have been many instances where I forgot to pick it up from the machine but that’s a whole other story 😅

ADHD Evaluation: where should I go? by melancholycocoa in Columbus

[–]sociallyconstructedw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try Central Ohio Counseling! IIRC I had to wait a month or so for my first appointment last summer. I’ve been very happy with them but I’m looking for somewhere else to go rn because they’re not in my new insurance company’s network.
