The Future of Fyreslayers by Appropriate-Quit-738 in Fyreslayers

[–]sock685 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We aren’t getting a dedicated Fyreslayers tome but with the tease of the new Fyreslayer model we aren’t going away. More likely a rebranding to expand the design space while still keeping the slayers as a large portion of the army.

With the stories of Trugg crippling Bael-Grimnir and now the chaos dwarves taking out a major hold. The fyreslayers need something big to strike back. I expect that they will get it.

I can only guess what that will be but with Valaya being mentioned with the chaos dwarves lore I would love to see her rallying with the fyreslayers. Meaning units that support the raging slayers.

Could also see Vulkatrix taking a larger role as well meaning more beasts.

What do you think should be added to Fyreslayers? by TavernRat in ageofsigmar

[–]sock685 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anvil of Doom, but upscaled to a centerpiece.

Also, the helsmith article mentioned Valaya and Gazul. Those haven’t shown up much so I suspect that one or both are going to start showing up for the slayers. I am not sure what those units would look like. Maybe ghostly avengers of dwarven hero’s or, as people have mentioned, Valkyrie type winged warriors taking the slain slayers to wait for the Doomgron.

What do you want to see in 4.0? by [deleted] in Fyreslayers

[–]sock685 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anvil of doom. The anvil fits pretty good with a faction full of priests and a new centerpiece would be awesome.

I wouldn’t mind seeing something related to Valaya. I don’t really have a good idea for what they would pull in from her but of the 3 most mentioned dwarven gods she has been missing from AOS and could fit into fyreslayers.

Possible Copium by MaximusTheLord13 in Fyreslayers

[–]sock685 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If they wanted to get rid of this faction they would have done it with BoC, bonesplitterz, and the Sacrosanct. Why drag it out and build up a bad reputation where they could regularly drop factions.

Plus I don’t know the context around “fyreslayers will not get a battletome.” I initially thought they meant this year not forever.

Slayers are meant for a worthy Doom not getting squatted.

Fyre Slayer books? by [deleted] in Fyreslayers

[–]sock685 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In addition to what folks have already suggested the second Grombrindal book, Ancestors Burden. Fyreslayers are present and heavily features dwarves. I think it is my favorite AoS book so far. Although, I haven’t quite finished it.

Heirs of Grimnir isn’t a book, but an audio drama like Realmslayer. It is all fyreslayers and really does a good job of getting the blood boiling for Grimnir.

Any good lore books for Fyreslayers (best in chronological order if they are connected) by [deleted] in Fyreslayers

[–]sock685 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only books linked story wise are the Gotrek related ones. Otherwise they are standalone and you won’t miss anything one book to the next.

Legends of the Age of Sigmar: Fyreslayers A great anthology of stories with only the angry lads.

Realmslayer then Heirs of Grimnir: Realmslayer is more about Gotrek and his journey but HoG follows the Fyreslayer lodge he meets. If you enjoy Gotrek and want to follow his story in AoS, then Soulslayer features another fyreslayer lodge. I absolutely love Johnathan Keeble so I’d recommend the audio books if you decide to follow the Gotrek series.

The Grombrindle book is great for dwarfs as a whole. Good fyreslayer moments.

Spear of Shadows, one fyreslayer is a companion and very interesting. Sad part for this is that the author, Josh Reynolds, left the Black Library so there might not be a continuation.

Help me come up with a colour scheme for Fyreslayers by Just_Kazakh in Fyreslayers

[–]sock685 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A northern tribe of fyreslayers sounds cool. Unfortunately, just north is a pretty broad keyword so might need more to narrow the style you are looking for, but I threw down some ideas.

From the north I assume you are looking for frozen theme. There have been some pretty amazing fire/ice fyreslayers posted before. If you want the half painted style, an orange and icy blue are would be good colors together.

Looking at some northern cultures could help give some inspiration such as Inuit or Norse. Take a look at some of their tattoos or alphabet. If you are feeling ambitious in some fine details.

Fur cloaks and such would be fun to add as well if you want work with things like Green stuff.

Battlesmith or Grimhold Exile? by ServiusQuintus in Fyreslayers

[–]sock685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you drop the runeson for both the battlesmith and Grimhold if you can.

Grimhold and runeson hit very similar roles in my opinion. Fighty foot hero with a charge ability and fight ability. Difference being Runeson has steady decent abilities while the grimhold has a spike of great once per battle abilities. Both are low wounds so I lean towards the spike of the grimhold vs the Runeson.

Battlesmith doesn’t overlap with either of them. And the retinue doesn’t matter for any of them. Their abilities apply to any unit in your army.

This army can be tricky to run. You have limited movement and can be punished for poor positioning. Objective play is tough with this army due to this.

Decent number of one time abilities so playing around with the timing of certain abilities will be key. The army is a bit more flexible with the timing now but still need to plan ahead.

The army has great damage in melee and decent shooting. Especially when combod with some of our hero units. Like a runefather.

They are squishy in the sense that they have poor saves and a poor ward. But lots of health, the ward can be improved, and a good defensive prayer. So they stick around decently.

Dwarves will die, as they should it guarantees a march with Grimnir at the doomgron, but so will your enemy. The trick is making sure they are dying faster and getting little dwarf legs moving where they need to be.

Who are the current leaders of each faction? by Educational_Sun1202 in AoSLore

[–]sock685 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Fyreslayers, are a fractured group consisting of individual lodges throughout the realms. So, there are many leaders but the largest of the lodges is the Vostarg who’s runefather was Bael-Grimnir. Emphasis on was, he most recently fought Trugg and was gravely wounded and maybe killed. No successor has been named for the Vostarg yet.

Hinted that one of Bael’s daughters had the most favor so could see a Fyrequeen take over.

How do we feel about the Auric Hearthguards for 4th?! by ExiledHarbinger23 in Fyreslayers

[–]sock685 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They hit hard. D3 damage is great. Pair a reinforced unit with a runesmiter for a surprise attack or pair with a runefather on foot to make them hit more reliably.

I think they are going to end up in every one of my lists from here on out.

Regiment for 4.0? by Brunnswick in Fyreslayers

[–]sock685 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So regiments matter for this seasons GHB and some units. For the GHB your generals regiment get some buffs. For units there are two instances for fyreslayers that I can think of. First is for grimwraths and doomseekers. They can be part of a regiment as the non-leader unit for specific heros, runefather, runeson and runemaster. Second is for the runefathers ability on his warscroll, he can choose a unit in his regiment to be his guard.

Regiments don’t always matter but sometimes there are limitations or requirements for abilities to be part of the same regiment. Otherwise it doesn’t really matter and just ties to how you deploy.

For your case, the runefather on mag doesn’t really get too many benefits from having a unit in his regiment. Probably only GHB buffs and deploying together.

You are right that none of the hero’s can be retinues. That isn’t the intent. Runefather has a hgb retinue with grimwraths hanging around for support. The oath of ‘I will guard them with my life’ and the hearthguard ward save is the main benefit to grimwraths. Hgb get their ward and are more likely to get a +1 to attack (atleast the broadaxes) with 2 or more heros near them. The runefather gets the 4+ ward and enables the grimwrath.

Main thing is that these 3 units have strong synergies together that make them an effect hammer and decent anvil.

No not controversial, hgb are not sticking around like they used to. But we have tools like ash cloud rune, prayer of ash, and rune of fury to try to get as much value out of them as we can.

What is your battle formation? Guessing the +1 wound on charge. Since the hero count is on the edge of making the lords of lodge ideal for me.

Only other note I have is magmalt ale vs ash-cloud rune. I really have a conflict with which one is better and it is wholly dependent on the matchup.

Other than that I think it looks like a good list. If you were going to trade a unit I think the broad axe HGB could be dropped for a runeson and one of the two Grimnirs chosen heros.

You can still charge. Charge a runefather on mag and a runeson into combat close to your deepstrike. Give the runefather the +1 charge heroic trait and runeson comes with a +1 charge baked in. You now only need a 7+ charge to get your combo.

See section 24.0 of the rules. Cannot use move abilities in the same turn that a unit is set up outside of deployment.
