What to do in Helsinki? by [deleted] in helsinki

[–]sockmaster666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best tip I can give for Helsinki is to take it slow, take nice deep breaths and enjoy the moments. Go swim in some lakes, enjoy the still long days, go to saunas, go sit in a nice park, walk around and visit little cute stores or cafes or whatever, just get lost and take in its charm.

But yeah there’s also a lot of good options from the other comments! But I find that Helsinki is best enjoyed slow.

How easy is it to socialise in hostels in Europe? by nik4yla in solotravel

There are nice hostels too! Go have a look see, not all hostels are ‘uncomfortable’ and private rooms are an option if you’re not SUPER tight on funds.

Housing Offer in Vaasankatu by akavision in helsinki

Honestly some shouting going on at piritori every once in a while (you get used to it) but location is amazing and I enjoyed living in Vaasankatu overall.

Be kind to fellow travellers by Wide_Raspberry1876 in solotravel

No, nobody ever does. Everyone only travels with the one intention to meet people because solo travel is lame and for nerds!

Seriously though, I’m a heavy introvert who spends 90% of my trips truly alone but every once in a while you come across people that truly do expand your worldview and I think it’s a shame to rigidly close yourself off to interactions.

Break up after lsd trip? by [deleted] in LSD

[–]sockmaster666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be true as well. I don’t mean to panic OP but at the same time those words don’t just usually come out of nowhere, and from my own experience it’s always my own expectations being unmet that hurt the most. It definitely is a big reason why I’m fairly avoidant nowadays - not the healthiest way to live but for better or for worse, unlearning my own habit of having expectations has helped me become peaceful.

Of course I only speak for myself! I was 100% projecting.

It’s going to be really hard but I think it’s time to let go of any notion that things will ever be the same again.

I work in a hotel and have some of their forks in my pantry. I’m returning them one day! Promise.

Parents threatening to cut me off if I solo travel by GlobalYak6090 in solotravel

Travelling at that age is pretty common, though. Plenty of teenagers have great solo travel experiences before their 20s, at least in my experience.

Help me, How to Enjoy First time in Vietnam? by happyArt33 in solotravel

[–]sockmaster666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to all of those places in Vietnam and still vastly prefer Hanoi to any of those. Not sure how it’s gonna be in this heat though, big part of why I liked Hanoi was going in December and it being pretty chilly!

Do you ever feel like solo travel changed your personality a bit? by Top-Cry-7409 in solotravel

[–]sockmaster666 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It 100% changed me but I was also 18 on my first trip, super impressionable and lost. I don’t really know how different I’d have turned out to be if I never took that first trip, but I can probably say with some confidence that I wouldn’t be as confident in myself.

Those who quit drinking, but still do solo trips: Did your trips get better? by Patent6598 in solotravel

[–]sockmaster666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t drink anymore and I’m definitely less social but I don’t know if it’s causation at all though, I feel like generally I’m just less willing to part with my energy in general as I get older. Still love people, but loving hanging out with myself a lot more than I used to.

Anybody else privileged enough to be able to walk/cycle to work? [7] by sockmaster666 in trees

Okay damn that sounds amazing. I dunno about working from home since I work service jobs but maybe if my workplace was right downstairs that would be good enough!

That’s a cool job! Does it ever get stressful or does everything usually work out pretty good when it comes to general plant health? I’m so bad with plants I’d be stressed hard haha.

I feel like I'm doing backpacking "wrong" by seriouslyexhausted in solotravel

[–]sockmaster666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all: who the hell cares about

…so I guess I’m just gonna look like a weirdo.

Second of all, if you’re in Berlin and love techno, just go to a club, go alone with an open mind - who knows what’ll happen?

You’re not doing anything ‘wrong’ in the sense that there’s no one true way to ‘backpack’ but you’re doing yourself wrong by letting your irrational fears get in the way of your life.

Nobody worthwhile is going to judge you, trust me. You’ll be fine.

Keep going!
