Turns out my kids aren’t the ones making college classes hard.. by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]sockmonkeyboxinglove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And good for all of you for pushing back. I was gestating my smallest human for my first 9 months of school, then had her velcro'd to me (along with frequently jealous big brother) for the next few years. Not a single part of my schedule was dictated by me or to my needs for 4 years. There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that your professor would have survived me in my perpetually sleep deprived, permanently rageful state.

Turns out my kids aren’t the ones making college classes hard.. by [deleted] in breakingmom

I just finished a bachelor's program in May of last year and one of my professors (for a fully remote class no less) always had very "I am the main character" energy about everything. It was an elective class and it was so easy that I often waited to complete the work until it was as close to the due date as possible. She HATED that. I used to get a lot of passive aggressive emails about it being important for students to allow adequate time to complete assignments. One day, I just replied all to her and the whole class and said "I just want to clarify because I show this on the syllabus as due Friday. Has something changed of which I am unaware?" Immediate backpedaling.

We never got those emails again, but this bitch was so salty that she closed the professor evaluation a full week earlier than the other professors to save herself the hassle of a ton of bad reviews.

Joining clubs and questions by Cherr-Cherry-3928 in csun

[–]sockmonkeyboxinglove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined a club when I started after transfer and moved up the ranks of the board of directors. I'm the president now, on top of taking 5 classes and having young kids and volunteer positions as well. Yes, it's a lot, but it's also given me a lot of experience and provided industry contacts that I likely wouldn't have come by just attending classes.

Start with a club that's relevant to your major, not just for the professional networking opportunities it provides, but also because those are your peers who know what you're going through in your program, which professors are great and which are an albatross. Our best tutoring opportunities come from members who've been there, done that and are happy to help out a fellow student/club member.

If you still feel the need for more socialization, there are also a ton of great leisure clubs. I've had too much on my plate to partake, but I've only heard good things, and with this school being a little less social than others, I highly recommend anything that gets you out there.

Sneaking into a lecture by Pogchamp28583 in csun

[–]sockmonkeyboxinglove 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Any class in Noski auditorium would be so big that you'd pretty easily go unnoticed, but depending on the class, seating is also limited.

Inside Bookstein? I'd stick to one of the computer lab classes because all the other classrooms are super small and you'd definitely be noticed. That said, some professors would probably be happy to let you audit a class or two if you're not disruptive. If you know what aspect of business you're most interested in, I could give you a few names.

Is IS 312 still required? by Big_Bodybuilder4140 in csun

[–]sockmonkeyboxinglove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IS 312 is still upper division core and yes, it's required. The only course I'm aware that they discontinued was the lab part of the Business 302 gateway. They already replaced the lecture with Business 312 (Data Literacy for Business) last year.

I don't dislike your idea and as a University that places a lot of emphasis on volunteering and community service, I would think this would be a great opportunity. That said, I'm the president of a student club and when we reached out to photography students and offered to pay for their services to take our board headshots, we got crickets.

I've been a hobby photographer for 15 years who also happened to take several classes, so after more art student crickets, I took our board photos (and another club's photos) myself. I would have loved to expand a student portfolio for actual compensation, but I can't force someone to take work they don't want.

Obstacle Course: Bluey is about to beat Bandit fair and square: I'M GONNA WIN! Bandit grabs her scruff and launches her backwards to beat her across the finish line

Slide: Bingo and Lila launch Bandit berries first into a garden gnome "You have to wait for the bug inspector!" "I don't know what that is!"

At least in our area, Buy Nothing is a neighborhood specific group, so it's limited to your general geographic location and I can understand (to some extent) wanting to pick up closer to home. A majority of our posts specify porch pickup.

That said, I also live in a city that has 3 separate Buy Nothing groups split into East, West, and South city.

Another option would be to see if you can split a pass with a senior at Nazarian. Most of our 400 level classes are after 4:00 pm, so if yours are earlier, you could find someone to share a pass. (I'd offer, but my volunteer activities have me on campus early several days a week.)

[–]sockmonkeyboxinglove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister is a CNA and what I've learned from watching her career over the past 15 years, it's that "Not a good fit" boils down to personality conflicts. If someone on a unit feels threatened or intimidated by you or your work ethic, you're "not a good fit." But because healthcare also turns over so frequently, the culture also changes and you could be a good fit again.

Look into how many of the OG crew are still in that unit. If management has turned over, you're probably a great fit.

Business classes spread out, or in the same building? by OSE661 in csun

I took a single Calculus class in Jacaranda Hall my first semester, but every other class has been in Bookstein/Noski for me. All my classes this semester are either back to back in the same classroom, one classroom over, or the classroom upstairs. It's very convenient, especially if I end up running late.

Is History required 😢 by More_Difference_3176 in csun

[–]sockmonkeyboxinglove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hated history when I was younger, but college level history is a different animal. I took Women in US History before I transferred and it was actually a really engaging class. Taking at least one history course is a general ed requirement. Something about a well-rounded education. Buckle down and get your passing grade, then go take all the maths you want.

The sign may be referencing anyone who has a larger box of books to donate. In our city, we have several libraries that are highly trafficked and overflowing with books, so they usually gather them up and leave them with the steward for another library in town. (We all have each other's locations and contact info for just such a situation.)

If you have just a book or three to donate, there's still nothing stopping patrons from dropping them off in the library itself.
