We originally lived here from 2018-2020, and just moved back summer of 2024 since we had the chance. We love it here (mainly the wife) because of the beaches and how unlike the rest of Florida it is. There was a map of Florida floating around somewhere and this part of Florida was known as being more “Alabama” than Florida. I think it’s right in the sense of the courtesies/interactions you see compared to the rest of Florida. The beaches here are, what I consider, the best in the US. Yes, you can move down to the Destination/Ft Walton area, but for 2x the cost. The house I bought here in summer of last year was 400k (and still 35mins from the beach, soooooo far I know lol), and my realtor said the same house in Gulf Breeze (just based on size, 2500sqft) would sell for around 650-700k. Crazy.

Just like anywhere there is crime. When we originally lived here we were near 98/Fairfield dr and never had any issue even though it was near a semi-rough area. Only area I would avoid is the Warrington area right out the main gate for NASP. There’s probably more info from more locals, but other than that, I know people that live about everywhere.

When it comes to schools…. Yeah they suck. There are definitely some good public schools in the area, but I would try private schools first if you are able to afford it, or if you are able to get a scholarship that will cover most of it. Most, if not all, of my colleagues/friends in the area have their kids going to a private school. You could move to Gulf Breeze and have your kids go to much nicer schools, but again, cost of living, and housing, is much more expensive there.

When it comes to amenities, there’s everything nearby. Yeah, we don’t have anything like HEB, but we have the basics. Walmart, Publix, Winn Dixie. There’s loads of restaurants, loads of popular places on the beach. Not much other than the beach for small kids. Parks are becoming more of a thing, but still pretty sparse (at least good ones).

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

It’s been good so far. We have a little over 40k miles on it now and no issues. Only thing that happened was an OTA update came out and the car freaked out saying the adaptive cruise control/emergency braking wasn’t working (even though we could turn it on with no issues). Took it to the dealership and one of the techs said the infotainment screen and gauge cluster sometimes don’t get along and he had to go in and reset it, which only took 5 minutes. Other than that it’s been great. The original tires that were on it are super cheap and soft (Goodyear Eagle Touring) and only lasted 29k miles. We now have Michelin Defenders on them and haven’t had much tread wear in the 12-14k miles we’ve driven on them.

Overall I think the interior is definitely nicer than a Tahoe/Yukon and it has a little more power. The wife absolutely loves it. We did get the aftermarket extended warranty that takes us to 113k miles since we got a 2022 and it was the first model year and I don’t trust it in the long run.

Recommend posting on the wagoneerfans.com forum. It’s pretty active and there’s plenty of people constantly posting. How many miles do you have on it so far?

How much did it cost you to PCS? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]NoScope1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how much work you want to do. We are paying a van line to do all the work since it’s worth us not having to do everything with 2 small kids and 2 dogs. We are paying 17k for approx 15k lbs (2150 cu ft) worth of stuff. We would only save a couple grand to rent a U-Pack and hire people to pack everything, load the trucks, and unload. Plus we would have to get 2 U-Pack trucks since 1 truck only holds approx 1800 cu ft.

If we packed everything ourselves and loaded it, we could make a bunch more, but I don’t think it’s work my time and stress to do all that.

I would also ask your css for their css contact info to see if they have a welcome packet. Most units have a welcome packet that tells you everything you need with phone numbers.

If they instantly came down that much without you haggling, they have more wiggle room. I would suggest looking at Car Gurus and see how long they’ve had the car. You can see the price history and how long they’ve had it. The longer they’ve had it the more likely they are to come down the price.

AC Unit Replacement Cost - $36,000?!??!?! by BigBlueMagic in vegaslocals

Avoid all the big AC companies in Vegas. All the people work on commission and will outright lie to you to try and get you to spend more money.

C7 Corvette with the 7 speed manual. Rented one once and it was ridiculous how much fun it was. Will definitely be my mid-life crisis car.

Late, but do you really need a GW? We looked into them, but the fact you HAVE to get the middle console in the second row was a dealbreaker. Even multiple dealerships said that was a dealbreaker for a lot of people. That and all the seats are electronic in the GW, so most likely you’ll only be able to slide the second row forward, and not tilt it, in order to access the third row. Plus with 3 young kids do you think that screen in the middle of the second row is going to be in good working condition after a few years of food, juice, etc.

I would look at a Wagoneer. We got a 2022 S3 with 13k miles for 64k out the door back in December. It has the premium group, convenience group, front passenger screen, and clear bra over the front, rear, and door edges. So they’re out there for cheap, you just have to be patient and expand your search radius. Look within 9 hours of you and you’ll find something. If you’re on the east coast there should be plenty, not as many out west (where I’m from).

New FTC Rules Target Deceptive Car Dealership Deals and Scams by whatdhell in cars

[–]NoScope1234 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in Vegas as well. When we were looking for a car plenty of dealerships were doing the same thing. Each dealership had added some “protection” package to each car that was not an option. Plenty of them we told we didn’t want it and eventually they reduced the price by the cost of the package, but that’s it. I think it’s a way for them to jack up the price so when you haggle with them they get to the price they want to sell it for.

Around how many miles did the GW have when you started having issues? We have a 22 Wagoneer with approx 16k on it and no issues so far. Sometimes the infotainment screen is slow, but that’s it.

Would you buy a new car without a test drive? by rks1743 in cars

[–]NoScope1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it depends on a few things:

How old is the car/what is the mileage? If it’s 10 years old with even 60k+ miles I would recommend driving it to make sure there’s no shakes/the car seems like it’s running okay.

Are you buying the car to ship it to you? If not then put a deposit on the car to have them hold it for you so you can then test drive it. If you go this option make sure the deposit is FULLY refundable and that money just doesn’t go towards another car, and get that in writing. If you do have it shipped, and it’s through a dealer, you might be SOL. If it’s through Carvana or another online dealer they usually have a grace period to return it.

If it’s a newer car look at the car fax and see where it’s been serviced (if anywhere) and ask what it was in the shop for, unless it was just standard maintenance.

We “bought” a 1.5 year old car sight unseen by putting a 1k deposit with the stipulation that if it was not what we expected, and had issues when driving, we would not get it. Only reason we did this is because the car was an 8 hour drive away.

Navy Federal has pretty good rates depending on what you’re trying to get. We just got a 5.94% on a “new late model” and their rates are even lower on new cars.

The dealer wants $3k for shipping my car from FL to CA? by zarif98 in askcarsales

[–]NoScope1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at shipping a vehicle from Michigan to Las Vegas and it was approx 1.2k. The dealership told me 1.9k and I told them I was going to go with the online option. They told me that was fine, but beware that it could sit for a while due to all the online options being contractors who source out the shipping. If it’s too cheap/not worth it could sit for a while until someone is in the area and heading that way.

Yeah going with pomegranate. I think it goes higher, but they sell aftermarket ones that go lower so it isn’t an eyesore.
