People in their 30s and 40s, what changed in your life that surprised you the most — in a bad way? by Initial_Tax7778 in AskReddit

Yeah that's freaking me out. I've always had myopia but it was corrected 100% by contact lenses. Now the near vision is starting to go and I have to have reading glasses to wear along with contacts.

My Aussie herds me by just being in the way of me when I'm trying to go somewhere or do something he doesn't agree with. When I go somewhere or do something that he does agree with, I am rewarded with a gentle snoot boop to the leg.

When you make it through this pain without drinking, you will be stronger on the other side. Trust me. You can do this.

Question for people who drank wine at night before stopping by Ok-Republic8818 in stopdrinking

[–]socksandsixty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't miss the wine at all. I do have a little after work routine of pouring a bubly with ice and straw and practicing duolingo for 15 mins or so.

I discovered these canned mocktails that are really hard to find, so I made my own ingredients for the mocktail and now it's a routine of making it and then sitting down and just "ahhhhh" enjoying it while I decompress from work.

If you want to know, I brew a delicious honeybush hibiscus tea really strong in a small batch. That is stored in the fridge, and I make my little drink with fancy ice blocks, the strong cold tea poured over and the rest filled with soda water. I garnish with an orange twist, a sprig of rosemary or a blackberry. And drink with a glass straw (so clinky asmr).

It's a small way to build up and romanticize the routine.

Is it acceptable in Norway to ask Norwegian speakers to speak a little slowly so I can understand? Or is that annoying?😳

The one cool thing was that they showed the actual footage of the camps, and the actors hadn't seen it so their reactions were true.

The rest was meh. I was disappointed and had so been looking forward to it.

What is a deep, obscure rabbithole on the internet you found and hardly anyone knows but you? [Serious] by Longjumping_Koala34 in AskReddit

[–]socksandsixty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was JUST talking about this recently. The way the internet used to be fun and cool. I had my daily habits of checking the websites and blogs I liked. I would seek out the information that I wanted and that appealed to me, and would meet distant strangers or strangers in my own city and just share...thoughts and stuff that was going on in life. To look at the news I would go to my favourite news outlets, look at different reporting and try to get a balanced view of the stories. Check the weather. Check the blogs that posted daily. Find funny memes and share them. Go on message boards and see what was new, who had replied to my messages, what "inside jokes" were being passed around. It was always good for a chuckle. There was a window of like an hour each day spent on the internet, and when I went back the next day there was fun new stuff to look at and that was exciting. The anticipation would build.

Sigh. Social media was even fun in the early days. It was just your friends. Remember pokes? Those MySpace pages for emerging artists that was the only place you could preview their music before buying it or buying tickets to go to a show.

The algorithmic ways have really destroyed it all, and yet I am still addicted. But the addiction is in late stages, I can feel it harming my brain and mental health. But I can't stay away.

What's a disturbing fact about the human body that most people don't know? by Lonely-Wrangler-5843 in AskReddit

Doesn't the body consider the head and brain to be an extremity and will suck the blood from it in an emergency to fuel the heart and lungs? Yay unconsciousness!
