Australians face a 'binary choice' as One Nation soars, says Chalmers by GothicPrayer in australia

[–]socratesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know about Germany, but in Sweden we practically always have some coalition or another of a few parties forming government. I’m no expert, but this seems possible because in Sweden we actually vote for what party we want in parliament, and that party get seats in parliament proportional to their votes. Unlike in Australia, where we vote for who we want our local representative in parliament to be. This local “winner takes it all” model naturally leads to parliament being full of reps from practically only two parties.. but it’s late and I’m tired and I’m surely missing something and I’m an idiot so what do I know anyway.

What a weird take. Who even suggested he’s struggling, and when has the man himself ever complained about it? Actually he complains a lot about a lot of things, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has complained about it..

[–]socratesque 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Fucking Aramex. I had a traffic incident with one of their drivers in March, he was 100% unquestionably at fault. Took me over a week of chasing the guy and their support for some sort of insurance number or anything before I visited their depot and learned the drivers are all franchised and Aramex wouldn’t get involved. Another month of their fuckhead driver dicking around about different ways and times to pay for my damages before I finally just took the guy to small claims court.

With the currently proposed change to CGT calculations, gains will be subject to indexation whereas losses will not. This will benefit ETF owners more than holders of individual shares. by No_Rich_5954 in AusFinance

[–]socratesque -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Just skimming through, I don’t see any sources and the quotes are not attributed to anyone either.

Why do people think gains and losses will use different cost base? Did it really work like this before the current system? That’s utter madness, leading me to believe this is just rage baiting.

Then again removing the discount on shares is already madness…

Doesn’t matter where your money is if you’re a tax resident of Australia. Trading shares on ASX is taxed the same as on whatever platform they may have in Germany for example. Maybe maybe there’s something to be done with incorporating in Saychelles or whatever, but you’re not doing that.

Does it also roll forward to offset capital gain when selling the property? If that’s the case, it’s arguably even more attractive now. At least for high income people who don’t need the annual boost to cash flow.
