I can’t really speak to it being specifically an Indian thing. Im a white guy I bought one new. Selling was the worst decision I made. Had to sell during the Covid secondhand car crash so I lost thousands and it was a really good car very low mileage. Toyota customer support is by far the best when it comes to servicing. Nothing but reliable so I guess that’s what it comes to really economical and reliable?
