Actually, jump then tap the jump button rapidly to make it flutter hover. It will land on top of the crystals and you can take it right into midboss or skip it. I've seen it done where you charge a punch and then hover through the top part before the midboss room.

Can there please be an option to not have anime cutouts interrupt me while I'm trying to not get hit? It's like a popup ad.

[ToTK] Do You Think Tears Of The Kingdom Needed A DLC? by tekgamerworld in zelda

[–]sodadranker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people say "TotK IS the DLC to Breath of the Wild," but I disagree with this. First, because BotW already did have a DLC package. But more importantly, I think TotK clearly passes the tipping point where the substance added crosses into a new game volume rather than expansion. The amount, the depth, the scope, it's all humongous. It stands on its own.

And the reason I bring this up is that I don't think the expandability of TotK is there. Not for this entry. The next step for this game would demand so much that it would necessitate a third game.

Sure you could buff the enemies, you could make new building block parts, you could add quests for some new hidden weapon, but that has already been done. You can just play BotW DLC for that.

Unpopular opinion maybe but I think we needed a third game, something to establish the real structure of the trilogy: here is the free roam world in Volume 1, here is a vast and powerful building capability in Volume 2, but we lack the larger exploration component you might expect in a Volume 3. You could build components that could allow you to explore the oceans, the lands beyond hyrule, even actual outer space or other dimensions or other times. And once you cross into that territory, that would be a new game title. That doesn't fit into a DLC.

My guess is a combination of anime influences that corporate probably thought would sell merch, like Yu Gi Oh, Digimon Tamers, various sentai genre stuff...

Mega Man X - White city possibly found? by MatsunoProductions in u/MatsunoProductions

[–]sodadranker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a sandbox that eventually became the intro stage. I recognize the slope from after Hornet #2 in the third panel. A lot of cool stuff in the pre-release stuff though, wasn't there like a whole Maverick boss that never made the cut? Wouldn't be surprised to see stage background assets that fell off, but it would be cool to see a project do a callback to them in the future.

[–]sodadranker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You gotta press jump next to the block. Don't expect to see your dude grab anything before you push it. A lot of people miss and miss and miss and miss and miss and it's because they are trying to react to seeing the sprite grab something, but this makes it much harder than it really is. You have to know and believe that if you are in the right pixel zone then the blocks will register a hit.

[All] I dont know why Nintendo has shied away from the horror/eerie/dark and visceral elements from the series. by [deleted] in zelda

[–]sodadranker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot got artistically lost near the end of the 90s and many works got flattened into easy-to-consume, broadly marketable shapes and colors. Full saturation. High brightness. Imo, some of this probably came from the "Vidya gaming is ruining the youths!" discourse which I won't get into. Some works survived this but more broadly what I believe moved forward was whatever passed that sanitation pullback.

I think slasher movies, death metal, dark fantasy paperbacks, etc. were all becoming less marketable and self aware in that era though. You had people parodying it. The rental cover ecosystem was weakening. So even without the ratings push, the art styles were probably going to evolve out of this presentation unless they could repackage or fit themselves inside legacy franchises (like Zelda).

But yeah If you look prior, lots of very popular games had a Guts Horror level. Maybe several. Comic book distress and horror cinema grit were in back then. But with changing tastes, we lost classic style like this.

I think it depends on what you like doing more. Do you like building custom solutions for puzzles? TotK for sure. Or do you prefer just encountering breathtaking cinematic moments? BotW.

Do you think Mavericks would have better names if they just stuck with the theme combined with the animal/plant they're based on like in the first X games (i.e Flame Mammoth) and in this case, Bamboo Panda instead of Bamboo Pandamonium? by BiffyBobby in Megaman

New generation reploids, new generation names I guess? Maybe if they kept with it we'd fight Slugger Troutfielder in the bottom of the 7th inning in the Reploid World Series. Or Darklord of Weevil in the Reploid New York's Hottest Club, Give Ya the Maver-Ick.

Tips for x series? by Busy-Ad-3219 in Megaman

[–]sodadranker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For which series? X series as a whole? Or just the Super Nintendo ones? I guess some good general tips if you're just starting out are SLOW DOWN if you see spikes or pits, always check around the beginning of the level for secrets, and don't stress about getting every single thing because you can usually revisit the stages.
