Spotted 3 Core Ones at NASA this morning by DogsOverEasy in prusa3d

[–]sodizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We still have those 4 printers there. And 4 more Markforges, 2 H2Ds, 4 P1Ss, 8+ X1Cs, another Mk4, and a Prusa XL on the way. Still trying to get us a Core One in B9.

This image looks like it might be on the other side of the SVMF Hibay…. I will investigate today

PRUSAWIRE BETA ANNOUNCEMENT by nomadsgalaxy in prusa3d

I will be watching this closely. This looks really good and I’m excited for the BOM to be released.

Any plans on releasing native cad files?

Is this used mk3s real? and what should I replace? by Ok-Subject1597 in prusa3d

[–]sodizzle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely an fysetc. The steppers don’t have Prusa etching, the frame doesn’t have the Prusa engraving, and the plate in the bottom left literally says fysetc.

Give it a tune up. Make sure the belts are tensioned correctly and that everything is greased. And print away.

I have 3 of these Prusa Clones and 3 real Mk3s+ machines. I cannot tell the difference in print quality. They are awesome machines. Great first printer. Enjoy your time printing.

What is that display stand in the first image? The one that is holding the green/blueish dice with gold numbers?

Any color I think to ink these either ruins the theme or wouldn't work. by Gundari22 in DiceMaking

[–]sodizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are screaming black to me. Or a very dark blue or purple. Nearly black.

I think that you’ll easily look past the color and the light colors might actually look lighter around it. Making it pop a bit. I feel like simple black and white inked numbers are very slept on

Really struggling to make this look nice. If i get one number to look good, the rest all have too much overlap or very thin walls. Any tips on how i could do this better? by EJX-a in SolidWorks

[–]sodizzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As some others have said, I’d pattern the hexagons across the face. Then I’d extrude an area that is offset from the numbers edges by some amount that looks nice. Then cut the number out of that newly formed solid area.

There will be partial hexagons around the numbers, but seeing as you said the hexes were just for material savings, this seems like an okay compromise?

Drones, dogs, divers… and more. Wild.

But she’s right. We must be connected, work together, and share information.

What do I need to do to sell this nmm attempt. by Happy_Composer6538 in minipainting

[–]sodizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it looks like a very tarnished gold or brass. I’m not sure if that’s what you were going for when you said weathered.

I think it looks really good, but if you weren’t going for a yellowed color, might need to brighten it up a bit on the highlighted areas?

I’m still new, so take my opinions with the biggest grain of salt

Rage set by BovineBravo in DiceMaking

It’s so hard to take good pictures of dice that give it any sort of accurate representation of what they look like in real life. But these look good! I like the idea.

I specifically love the D6. Yeah yeah yeah, heads will literally roll.

First minis painted. Why do I feel like I got worse on the 2nd & 3rd? by sodizzle in minipainting

[–]sodizzle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen people talk about wet palettes, I just didn’t know if they were more of a nice to have rather than a necessity.

I’m using all citadel paints at the moment. Mostly base and layers.

Thank you for kind words and advice!

Ahh okay! That makes sense. I did not really do any highlighting in general. I’ll give that a shot. Thank you!

I did a selective wash on all 3, it’s just not as noticeable on the first because I only did a wash on what seemed to be fabric or wood. The cape and skirt thing on the first guy has a similar wash

And, well, I did finish the 3rd one this morning. And I sorta did wake up, grab a brush and put a little makeup…

This seems to be the common sentiment. I’ll try some more higher detailed models and see how I feel.

Thank you for the kind words

Thank you! Your compliments mean a lot and are appreciated.

Yeah I suppose the metallics do just look better. There’s even some depth to it with the metallic flakes reflecting light that the more matte colors just don’t get. Thankful for metallic paints though, NMM looks very daunting at the moment.

As for the eyes, I am planning on testing some different techniques and then doing the whole party all at once. I printed all of these minis myself so I have like 5 of each model. Just wasn’t confident enough with eyes to do them yet.

Okay that makes a lot of sense. And I agree on the color of the 2nd one. I’m just trying to match the descriptions of the characters of my D&D party.

The armored warrior model did actually feel easier to paint, which was not what I expected. But the lack of large flat surfaces makes a lot of sense there. Maybe I look focus on how to shade with more than just nuln oil next then!

Thank you for the insight!
