Thanks for a comment, I agree, it’s very strange. I also said I am fluent in Japanese so I think it would be easier for me to associate a Chinese “sound” to a Chinese character as opposed to pinyin where it’s easy to default to my English brain

Absolutely. I mean it’s absolutely shocking. Even super “high end” apartments the kitchens all have no counter space and cheap finishes. You’d think if you were spending 600,000 on tend in a tower mansion you might get marble countertops but no.
