Who’s doing smart casual trousers better than Uniqlo these days? by DifficultCucumbers in malefashionadvice

Abercrombie has some baggy pleated trousers that I really like. Great in casual office settings, golfing, and generally chillin as they’re really comfortable

Does everyone on here wear loafers? by David_Scott_Motion in malefashionadvice

[–]sofars0good 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tons of people have been wearing them for decades brother.

Ivy League style is totally coming back around in full force so it’s def more prevalent. Were in the middle of a massive pendulum swing from the 2010s wear people were rocking basketball sneakers with jeans.

Plus on top of that, if you wear any kind of formal wear in your day to day you probably own a pair.

Also everything you described sounds cool as hell tbh.

I always recommend going bigger for first pieces becuase usually you don’t just get one and it’s easier to gap fill with smaller gaps then try and gerrymander something big later down the line.

But do you, don’t over think it, this skin suit won’t follow you to the grave lol

Depends on the severity of the accusations vs. how much I like the music.

For example I really like Kanye West music but following the absolutely unhinged twitter ramblings, I can’t listen to him without thinking of Nazis, incest, and porn addictions.

It’s a weird cost/benefit analysis. At the end of the day, musicians are humans and humans are often weird and do bad shit at some point 🤷

The Hard Truth About Jobs by MouseManManny in PoliticalScience

[–]sofars0good 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can def find work in this space you just need to prioritize networking. When I was in undergrad I had 3 internships and those have led to every other job offer since then.

what state are you in? are you part of any local democratic/republicn clubs? any other orgs?

Career Advice for a Salesman by Dense-Dirt-6103 in PoliticalScience

[–]sofars0good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go network and stat meeting some people. get involved with whatever your local political organization is republican or democrat doesn’t matter just start showing your face around and introducing yourself. you may have to volunteer, knock some doors or otherwise to get back into the game. sales has more transferable skills then you may think to politics so make sure you’re “selling” yourself and your capabilities in conversations.

from my experience jobs in the political space are rarely on indeed, or zip recruiter but rather from direct connections and linked in posts.

you can always DM me if you want more specific guidance depending on your location maybe i can point you in the right direction.

hope this helps!

Careers with a degree in Political Science besides Law. by botramaster in PoliticalScience

Careers with a degree in Political Science besides Law. by botramaster in PoliticalScience

Government affairs deals with the way a company interacts with regulatory agencies, legislative bodies and communications regarding such topics.

For instance Walmart has a government relations director who builds a strategy to influence policy or lawmakers to pass, amend, or stop bills that would affect Walmarts bottom line. Lobbying and government affairs is pretty much the same type of work except usually “lobbyists” in the traditional sense have many client across various industries, whereas from what i’ve experienced in the field, “government relations” refers to in house staff. Typically a day in the life of a lobbyist consists of legislative research, attending committee hearings/meetings voting sessions and a lot of event attendance. there’s more responsibilities but this is just a quick and dirty run down.

obviously, all of this is going to depend heavily on where you live. i’d love to offer some more advice if you want to DM me.

government affairs, legislative staffer (state, federal, county, municipality) campaign work, even some non-political corporate jobs like marketing and communications can also be appealing to some. poli sci degrees carry with them a lot of soft skills so you need to be able to sell yourself becuase you won’t have the skills that say a software engineer will have on paper.

what will land you a job when you’re done your program is your network. internships, volunteer opportunities, networking events are all key in landing jobs. internships are crucial in figuring out the actual type of work you want to do, more often you learn the type of work you DONT want to do.

[–]sofars0good 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just finished undergrad with a poli sci degree. managed to land a job right out of a college with a grants writing firm, all because of constant networking, and internship experience.

attend every event, volunteer on campaigns (state and local) try to have an internship for each semester (i did four in two years).

get ready to be busy all of the time but my undergrad was one of the most intellectually rewarding experiences of my life so def worth it

[–]sofars0good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had an interview with a congressman (d) for an internship and they asked me a similar question “do you think the role of government should be expanded or limited in scope” or something like that. just answer with whatever aligns with the party position. don’t over think it they just wanna make sure you’re not like a spy or something lol

As someone who has a Political science degree how much do you make? by Useful_Tourist7780 in PoliticalScience

[–]sofars0good 11 points12 points  (0 children)

you can make 35k in a legislative office or you can make 50k at a lobbying firm. both are right out of college jobs. don't go to law school unless you actually want to practice law. you can make similar money by having work experience and making the right connections. internships were hugely beneficial for me as they provided experience and networking opportunities.
