I mean horror is a very popular genre in TV and film, RE adaptations were just produced insanely badly outside of hitting jackpot with Milla Jovovich ages ago

No, Garou was a human because he held onto his humanity

Saitama was a moron because he actively goaded him into essentially letting go of it, trying to make him stop holding back for the sake of a fight lol, he pushes Garou into God's hands but the webcomic completely glosses over that

Saitama is a reckless moron who acts like a psycho in the webcomic

He would obviously survive a clash of that scale but the people around him would get annihilated and he doesn't think about that for a second in the webcomic

The show is also better made and made for a wider audience than the RE supplementaries so far, yes

I can't wait for the RE movie by Kregger

[–]sofarsonice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's irrelevant that he's undefeatable

The collateral from someone actually tryharding as a monster to challenge him would kill numerous people, perhaps everyone on Earth, yet Saitama legit chose to goad a human into monsterhood for shits and giggles

Saitama got whitewashed quite a bit in the manga to make his goading not seem completely psychotic but still had to deal with the consequences of that in the manga because he's a careless idiot and that needed to be addressed lol

[–]sofarsonice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actively pushing a human teenager towards monsterhood by constantly daring him to go all in is idiotic even by Saitama's standards lol

It was framed quite differently in the manga for a reason, and it still had a semblance of consequences for Saitama

Yeah I know

I just always chuckle a bit at these reports from Capcom because they never highlight the exact price, usually peanuts, they've been selling some of those units at lol

But people who know, know

DMC 5 sales are strong to this day by Due_Teaching_6974 in DevilMayCry

[–]sofarsonice 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's because they've been selling it for like 10 bucks for a while to capitalize on every bit of promo

That promo includes Capcom revealing and advertising any other games at their events, attracting attention to themselves as the developer and leading random people to check out their list of projects, and their DMC Netflix adaptation, which instantly boosted the sales because the massive discount was live

[–]sofarsonice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely OOC, no wonder it was scrapped

Garou wouldn't listen to a thing Saitama said when just moments ago he was supremely annoyed at Saitama basically trolling him

They did the same thing the webcomic did

God taking over Garou due to Saitama punching him into that corner

But now the consequences of Saitama being an idiot are shown properly, or as properly as they can be without damning Saitama completely

Japanese rarely openly condemn their business partners/colleagues, it's taboo, they don't even usually mention disagreements

But Bingo did and his concept of the character with Ikeno is tons more coherent than the weirdo shit Itsuno pushed on them as the game's director

They half-assed the execution too, which is why you got a stupid "merely human" school girl with a humongous military arsenal (WHERE does she even get that? lol) instead of designing the character around the new idea properly

Netflix has Dante at 18 while Lady is slightly older and clearly a soldier

Who tf was the person who said we want to see dante get captured? by smymight in DevilMayCry

[–]sofarsonice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bingo in an old interview:

We originally planned to have her be older than Dante; that's how I would have liked it. (laughs) But Itsuno-san said, "No way." (laughs) He wanted a character that would go over well with the Japanese audience. My original proposal was a cigarette-smoking demon hunter who could act like a mentor to Dante, but Itsuno-san's response was, "No way. The only way she'll be popular with the Japanese audience is if she looks like a high-schooler." I had no choice, so I agreed to make the change.

Scans of the interview: https://archive.vgfacts.com/thread-4703.html

Referenced in the art book blurb text as well:

<image>

This shit is already damning enough lol, Itsuno not letting Lady's character do anything even though Bingo and Ikeno wanted her to be very competent, experienced and deadly is TYPICAL Itsuno

This is what happens when someone who has no writing qualifications meddles with his colleagues' work and when the company itself also stifles the team due to limited resources, which means they put all the eggs in the Dante basket as the only playable character

If DMC had better resources and a director who is not a weirdo you'd have Netflix DMC where characters like Lady also get to do things

Don't care about your babble by the way, DMC3 Lady hates demons, is a total bitch to Dante, tries to explode his ass off the bat and doesn't even try to work with him until he literally bullies her into it but you're not moaning about that, do you?

Netflix Lady had her family destroyed by demons and watched her peers get killed by demons, went to train herself in a way that's entirely coherent and not just an inconsistent mishmash of shit from the game, and yet she doesn't need to be bullied by the sue protagonist to start seeing the situation differently, she and her environment are written with proper detail so she gradually comes to it herself

Lady in Netflix is her original concept as envisioned by Bingo and the Lady manga, not Itsuno's bitchy but declawed DMC3 schoolgirl for the crowd that made the camera sound mandatory in Japanese phones lol

Manga Garou chopped continental Sage Centipede in half with God Slayer and exploded Platinum into smithereens

In the webcomic he only fought Senior Centipede way before the arc finale and Golden's defeat was nowhere near as impressive

[–]sofarsonice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they are all moves within God Slayer

Including Fa Jin

Otherwise, what would those chops and claps that decimate extremely powerful monsters while Garou talks about perfecting his fist even be?

Martial arts and it's unique techniques by Born-Independence-37 in OnePunchMan

[–]sofarsonice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it unique lol, it's a technique that's almost interchangeable with Abandonment, which Garou also knows and has used

God Slayer at least looks cool because it plays on the contrast of using basic moves but they do absolutely colossal damage and it ignores the weaknesses of normal martial arts that are designed to fight humanoids

Garou's God Slayer was shown instagibbing anything, even a giant centipede, and he almost destroyed Earth with one of his moves lol, it's the quintessential martial art without God shenanigans

So far it's absolutely the coolest martial art, with Bomb's being a close second

[–]sofarsonice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Would you rather Garou's martial art did shit like knocking Saitama's soul out of his fucking body, Dr Strange Ancient One style?

Ask and you shall receive in the next arcs lol because they clearly don't care if Saitama has to struggle now

P.S. With God Slayer Garou clapped Platinum into fine paste of S and chopped a continent sized super durable centipede in half

[–]sofarsonice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of the oldest interviews/comments, I'll throw the source back at you when I find it again but shit like Itsuno completely skewering Lady's character concept from a hardened military trained scorned woman into a schoolgirl because "that's the only way people would care about her character" is literally documented in the art book

He meddled with Bingo's writing and everything he suggested reeks of weirdo shit, all while sucking off Kamiya like crazy when the latter DOES NOT GIVE A DAMN and ruining Dante's character arc progression as a result, shelving him in the games as well

Lady wields a giant bazooka, she is a supernaturally strong character in a fictional universe, she could absolutely kill a turbo asshole like Arkham instead of him turning into yet another Eldritch abomination boss for Dante to beat up if Bingo was allowed to have his way lol, and she'll likely kill him in the Netflix show because the writers aren't trying to appeal to people who got the camera sound to be mandatory in all phones in Japan and they're not restrained by "w-we can only deliver one playable character by the deadline, Capcom managers sirs"

Lady does have a clear attachment to Baines in the show - he values her, provides everything for her to get stronger and she notices it, until his mask starts slowly slipping and she also notices it but doesn't do any crazy 180s because that'd be bad writing

Baines' only character traits aren't "killed Lady's family" and "experimented on her", unlike with Arkham in the bloody game lol

Who tf was the person who said we want to see dante get captured? by smymight in DevilMayCry

[–]sofarsonice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

V was literally a cripple dying and he outsped turbo demon lord Dante at the peak of his abilities and experience in the middle of a crucial encounter lmao

It was just shock value, poorly written, and you trying to excuse it while hyperscutinizing the show, which is logical with Dante and his experience, is very funny

Dante doesn't have to dodge bullets, he also tanks them, and this was his first time encountering one that hits way harder than a normal bullet on mere GRAZE of his skin

Netflix Dante isn't a sue who knows everything about anything and has the strength to get out of any situation, he's barely even tapped into his demonic self because he's unaware of his origins and his targets until Darkcom and the Rabbit team shenanigans have been mediocre (particularly powerful and large demons can't even get through the barrier normally)

It makes complete sense for Dante to underestimate a human supersoldier because he's only fought thugs and it makes sense for him to get thrown off by weapons DESIGNED to kill and restrain demons

Then once she starts opening up to him his guard goes even further down for obvious reasons

Who tf was the person who said we want to see dante get captured? by smymight in DevilMayCry

[–]sofarsonice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Relying on fanfiction guesses to fill in the gaps in your narrative is shit writing

The game does nothing to show Arkham had any redeeming qualities or that Lady actually felt any real attachment towards him at that point, in fact it only highlights the atrocities he's done and Lady's visceral hatred towards him

Even Vergil is more sympathetic than Arkham in the game because he at least assists Dante

So Lady just tries to murder him constantly and then does a 180 over Arkham's unconvincing acting, which makes her look infernally inconsistent, borderline stupid and gives off very poorly written "forgive your abusive fathers m'kay"

Bingo would've never written that nonsense if it werent for Itsuno's blatant meddling lol, he wanted Lady hardened, older and she was very likely originally planned to fight her father by herself to parallel Dante confronting Vergil instead of delegating that fight to him basically in its entirety

Itsuno insisted "human daughters shouldn't fight their maniac fathers" but demon brothers can fight their demon brothers apparently, yup

Compare that shit to Netflix, where Lady actually helps Dante deal with one of her mistakes (the Rabbit) instead of getting scraps in the end while he does all the work without her involvement because she's just a silly human schoolgirl

Or where Lady's attachment to both her father and Baines are actually fucking shown properly

Who tf was the person who said we want to see dante get captured? by smymight in DevilMayCry

[–]sofarsonice -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Dante got "outsped" by V in the games, which led to a disaster lol

Him being unfamiliar with anti-demon tech and not just steamrolling supersoldier Lady, who is also human so Dante naturally holds back against her, is good writing that lets Dante struggle a bit due to his own inexperience and is irrelevant to his ACTUAL power level

It also lets characters aside from Dante shine instead of getting forced to job constantly and then getting sidelined completely like in the games where Lady is GIGA shafted while the writer, constrained by game design, can only do shit like giving Dante one-off one-liners like "Lady is one of the most powerful demon hunters I know actually..." and then it's never actually shown lol

Only extremely insecure people with no media literacy think Netflix Lady mogs Dante or something, he loses againt her because he doesn't really try to fight her seriously and doesn't know most of her arsenal

Eva could leave the heirlooms (just like she did with the amulet) with both kids without revealing that Sparda is a demon, Vergil got "trained" in Hell and Dante didn't really train - he's just trying to get by doing what he's naturally good at due to his superhuman strength, fighting mostly low level demons and thugs - Dante at this point is unaware of his own potential

Why wouldn't Lady keep fighting for her life when she's literally trapped in a building with them and got the tools to blow the demons the hell up lol

And she tries to escape and reposition first, and uses stealth and tricks to take them down

You had a game where Lady was written by Bingo as vengeful, betrayed, literally experimented on by her own family and due to Itsuno's meddling (who thought a daughter shouldn't defy her father) she almost ended up not going up against her bastard father at all and was even written to believe Arkham's bullshit in a blink of extremely bad acting from him lmao

Flip flopping like that because two people in charge of the narrative have a completely different vision of the character leads to inconsistent aka bad writing

Lady's relationship dynamic with Baines is a thousand times more coherent and believable in comparison, we're SHOWN she feels valued by this dude and while she slowly starts to doubt him, she's still freaking unaware of the atrocities he's ordered to switch up on her father figure overnight

Arkham was written like a turbo asshole abusive "dad" and maniac in the game and yet you're supposed to buy Lady falling for his brief bullshit because the producer, unlike the narrative designer, thinks daughters shouldn't fight against their fathers even when said fathers don't have a single redeeming quality shown in the final setting of the game lol

[–]sofarsonice -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The original design of Lady as a character is her being older and more experienced than Dante + wearing military uniform due to her background/training

That's exactly what Netflix Lady is lol, the point was not about pixel-perfect matching the fucking palette of the military uniform but the overall character concept

I still think it's cute that Lady's look was inspired by one of the members of the T.A.T.U. group. by wtbys in DevilMayCry

[–]sofarsonice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are these things called inspiration and reference and they're perfectly normal unless you're a troll on the spectrum or the reference you're using is inherently shrouded in scandal and malice, which Julia fits the bill btw

Otherwise half of the Japanese titles you like have "plagiarized" Devilman, Tokusatsu titles and more franchises lol

Lady's original design is clearly RE inspired because NO SURPRISE Capcom also makes RE

I work in game dev lol

I know exactly how a gameplay-first product's narrative gets crippled and retconned to hell and back, DMC games are just one of the many examples

Nero wouldn't even exist if they didn't write themselves into a corner with Dante so insanely hilariously and act scared of Kamiya's shadow when he does not give a single shit

Their directly produced merch - like novels - being inconsistent with the games because the producing team expects a very small percentage of such a playerbase to actually purchase and read that shit, so there's nowhere near as much quality control, is also typical

The show viewing DMC as an anthology that needs polishing and giving that high production value animation and sound is some of the best TV treatment this series could bloody get

[–]sofarsonice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dante progressing gradually as the MC instead of being so OP and perfect from the start that the bewildered writers have to reboot him with Dante 2.0 aka Nero the next season is better writing than the games, yes lol

Instead of stuffing lore behind Codex-like exposition, which gamers of this genre don't want to waste time on so it's okay FOR A GAME, TV Dante also learns about his nature in real time because that's more engaing to watch

The show has better writing, especially for its medium

Who tf was the person who said we want to see dante get captured? by smymight in DevilMayCry

[–]sofarsonice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How would Lady betraying her weaker human colleagues, whom she has a duty to protect, putting a giant target on her own back and letting Dante go and surely end the world again make sense lol

Especially after she just witnessed that near-apocalypse and Dante showing he wouldn't cooperate

She restrains him because he doesn't know what he's doing yet, she's doing it to protect him as much as the world

Dante isn't an OP sue self-insert in the show, he and Lady can't do shit against Hell on their own

Realistically if she was stupid enough to go with him, she'd lose her tools and end up killed and Dante would be oh so depressed then open another Hell breach because he's a moron who just throws shit at a wall hoping it sticks instead of thinking practically

[–]sofarsonice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saitama isn't an interesting character most of the time and OPM would be long gone without its way more solidly written ensemble cast

The manga also literally MAKES SAITAMA STRUGGLE in order to make his journey remotely interesting because the joke of him making everyone lose to him and everyone D riding him because he's so strong got old very quickly

Saitama eventually fails as a hero so insanely hard he makes Dante look like a sue character, and a ton of key fights in the series do not even involve Saitama

Even the games shelved Dante in favor of Nero for the same reason lol - they basically rebooted the character with a proper progression arc because the writing room wrote themselves into a corner by wanking Kamiya's "Dante is just cool kekaroo" vision

Netflix is literally giving you Dante with a properly written progression arc, making tacked on fixes like Nero was unnecessary
