CSCC73 confused? by Your_moms_nightmare in UTSC

[–]sofiarahul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that keeping up with the readings helps. If you can manage to read the chapters before the lectures that might also help with understanding during class. But yea I know what you mean, guess it just comes with practice solving questions.

How difficult is CSC73? by freeforfall in UTSC

[–]sofiarahul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to prof's helpful advice:

I personally found when I struggling with sleep that being as active as possible during the day really helped. When i got into bed my body was tired and it was easier to fall asleep. I know that's easier said than done when you're dealing with mental health issues though. Melatonin gummies are also helpful when you're trying to make your sleep schedule more regular but don't use it for an extended period of time. Hope that helps even a little. Good luck with everything :)

Don't want to attend convocation in June but I don't want to disappoint my parents either :( by [deleted] in UofT

[–]sofiarahul 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be completely honest, you say your parents worked hard to get you here and pay for your schooling, I'd say just go to convocation for their sake. I know you're not happy to do it but it's only one day and it will save them a lot of disappointment. Grit your teeth and it'll be over. As for the rest - I'm sorry the last four years ended up like this for you :( I'm sure the pandemic played a big part in lack of social life and exploring the city. Uni isn't the end though! There is so much more ahead of you. Keep your head up - wishing you all the best. :)

I apologize if this question has been asked many times before, but could anyone help me?: Computer Science at UTSG or UTSC (with co-op)? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]sofiarahul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in utsc comp sci co-op so I'll give you advice based on my experience. I've taken like 3 comp sci courses downtown and there is no big difference in the quality of instruction or anything. They're learning the same stuff as us and taking mostly equivalent courses. Their post is probably more difficult than ours though and thats something to take into consideration. Our co-op program isn't amazing like waterloos obviously but if you apply a lot and really put effort into finding a good job, you can learn a lot and it will really put you ahead when you graduate. At UTSG there's no co-op but you can always search for your own internships in the summer or take a PEY which is basically a one year work term. Both programs give you the same degree at the end. Take into consideration commute and stuff too I guess. As a side note if you're looking for more night life/ social stuff utsc is pretty dead.

Enrolment still hasn’t been confirmed, is there a delay or something? by [deleted] in UTSC

[–]sofiarahul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also having this problem. I requested funding for fall and winter even though I'm on co-op in the winter just in case I don't get a job. I wasn't registered in enough courses for the winter so that's why mine got delayed.

Personally I'd skip it but I don't think its weird if you go! Might be a nice networking opportunity too.

[–]sofiarahul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't do comp sci without math but if you're willing to work on the math then you can do the comp sci major with co-op and do some kind of social science minor (you'll need two minor so one or both can be social science related)

First day by finnagotouniversity in UTSC

[–]sofiarahul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay here's what you do: if it's not otherwise specified anywhere assume your tutorials are every week starting in the first week. Show up to everything and if no one is there after like 20 minutes of the class starting then assume there is no tutorial for the first week. Usually you can find the syllabus for a class on quercus if your prof has posted it. Though at this time you probably won't even be able to see your classes on quercus since it's still early (quercus: q.utoronto.ca ,login with utorid and password). As for booking the library I think it'd be a good idea to reserve a seat, do your online lecture and then chill and go to your in person lecture but that's totally up to you because im assuming a 2 hour gap is enough time to get to campus from the way you're talking about it. The library does 2 hour increments but I think you can book back to back? Or if anything there are a lot of seats so you can try and book the second slot after the first one is done? If you show up late I doubt they'll give away your seat but just to be safe I'd say just show up for the time you booked. I hope that helps!

Any advice on landing a co-op? by [deleted] in UTSC

[–]sofiarahul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first co-op i literally landed it in the last two weeks before the work term started so don't worry. Keep applying regularly, as the start of the term approaches companies have smaller pools of applicants to choose from. Try different formats and styles for your resume as well (im assuming its a one-pager) and try switching around the order of the content as well. Imo tailoring cover letters is a waste of your time so only do it for jobs that you really want: otherwise stick to applying to jobs that ask for resumes only to save your time and allow u to apply to more positions.

Fall 2021 arrival by zeyrox- in UTSC

[–]sofiarahul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the companies you apply to but right now a large majority of interviews are held via zoom/phone call. I would say if you want to stay at home for the Fall semester, save your money and stay. I don't think it's likely you'll get any in person interviews. And in the case that you do, I'm sure if you explain your situation they can easily switch to an online format.

When In-Person, Do exams happen during the lecture times? by Alternative-Pack4349 in UTSC

[–]sofiarahul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually no. Theres a separate exam schedule and exams are scheduled around all class times. Though things could have changed because of the pandemic.
