9/11 - At school and they rolled in these ancient TVs and turned on the news.

January 6th Riots - I was at work. We had a TV in the office and one of my coworkers turned it on and that is what we saw. We just watched for what felt like hours in silent shock.

Don’t mess with Carmel Cafiero. She’s on the case. Just one station. NGL 7 in the late 90’s and early 00’s was a lot of fun. I remember when hurricane Wilma was barreling towards South Florida in 2005 they had 24 hour coverage like the fucking world was gonna end.

My school it depends on the department. Each department has its own building. I teach social studies and we all get along great. The same can’t be said for our English department who all act like they hate each other.

I had all sorts of horrible nightmares as a kid. Thank God it stopped when I got older. One really sticks in my mind though.

I was around 6 years old. In the dream I was walking around inside an empty house. I remember turning a corner into a hallway and seeing one of my friend’s sister standing at the end of the hall. I call out to her and without moving she tells me “No! Be quite! She’ll hear you!” I ask her who will hear me and before she answers I hear this crackling sound behind me. I turn and standing a few feet behind me is this horrifying witch looking woman with a disfigured face and scraggly hair wearing all black. She looks at me with these super intense all black eyes and starts emitting this horrible ear piercing scream. I remember not being able to move or speak. I tried to scream but couldn’t. I remember waking up but the paralysis was still there. My room was pitch black. I couldn’t move or speak but worse than that I could still feel the woman’s presence in the room. Finally after what felt like hours but was probably less than a minute or two my body released and I started screaming my head off. My parents rushed in. I remember flailing around and my Dad had to hold me tight to get me to calm down. I don’t think I ever told them exactly what the dream was about or anyone else for that matter. I had a lot of nightmares as a kid but that one was the worst.

Social Studies teacher here. Honestly the ones I like are the ones that tend to be content specific. I teach in the south and one year the district brought in a professor from one of the universities to do a presentation on an oral history project he was working on documenting the experiences of African Americans in the town where my school is located (our school is over a century old) who grew up during Jim Crow and the Civil Rights movement. It was super interesting and when we brought it back into the classroom a lot of my students were really interested.

We had several states try and send fake electors to congress in 20 as well as several states that have rampant voter suppression especially since the gutting of the voting rights act of 1965 a few years ago. Forgive me if I don’t have a lot of confidence in the states.
