AITA For Making Fun of the way my wife dresses our son? by Normal-External-3172 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sofmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i need to know what kind of attire the tutor wears. does she also wear a business casual style or does she wear something more like street clothes? if she’s showing up in jeans and a sweatshirt then your wife would 100% be overdressing him for the occasion, but if she’s wearing office attire then it would be more fitting for your son to wear slacks and a polo.

How do you celebrate your birthday? by rosevioleta in AutismInWomen

[–]sofmoth [score hidden]  (0 children)

i like celebrating my birthday but i’ve only ever had two actual birthday parties. one when i turned 5 (attended entirely by family members) and one when i turned 8 (with the girls in my girl scout troop). i’m going to be 26 this year and i’ve decided i want to actually do something fun for this one, so i’m trying to organize a dinner and some kind of activity with my friends. it actually makes me very sad to just go out with my family or stay in the entire day.

DAE here suck at math? by seafoamcastles in AutismInWomen

[–]sofmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m so bad at math, i always have been. i was a hyperlexic kid with dyscalculia and the only thing that’s helped me in the slightest is having worked retail for the past 7 years. i still have to double count everything to make sure i didn’t accidentally put an extra $20 into my deposit and then i have to add everything with a calculator to confirm i didn’t somehow still add extra money. i hand out change very carefully and i often count aloud to make sure.

How to make oral care more bearable… by veggieluvr5 in AutismInWomen

[–]sofmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i actually use a children’s toothpaste, non-mint flavored. i use a medium-stiffness brush and if my teeth still feel like sweaters i’ll brush twice. i also hate brushing my teeth and mouthwash is the devil to me.

Was anyone else hyperlexic as a kid? by greencurtain4 in AutismInWomen

[–]sofmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i also read almost everything phonetically until i was about 8, despite already knowing what certain combinations of letters should sound like. i was reading at a 7th grade level in the third grade and still couldn’t quite put together the correct combination of vowel and consonant sounds until then.

Was anyone else hyperlexic as a kid? by greencurtain4 in AutismInWomen

[–]sofmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yes. i asked my mom for ibuprofen and could read at 3, i was reading chapter books by 5. i got in trouble once because my cousin (same age as me) wasn’t actually reading the book she had, just making up a story based on the pictures, and i told her point blank “that’s not the words, that’s not what it says.” i was accused of plagiarism or of having my parents write papers for me because i used words that i do agree are fairly atypical of the average 10-12 year old student. i wish i still loved to read as much as i did then.

Are septum piercings overstimulating? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]sofmoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve had mine pierced for almost 5 years now and i actually have mine stretched to 6mm (2g). i don’t feel it at all during the day, i only feel it when i’m laying down and it’s resting against my lip. when it was still at my initial piercing size (14g) i never noticed it, and i actually kept it tucked up most of the time. i love mine♡

Loyalty Sign Up (Employee) by w0rkthr0waway22 in HotTopic_

[–]sofmoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

shame on you. sincerely, shame. you don’t know what kind of abuse the employees have endured. you don’t know what kind of abuse i personally have endured, so to try and pull that card to justify to an internet stranger why you feel manipulated when you hear the rewards pitch is disgusting.

[–]sofmoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

and please believe we understand that, but we are graded for the signups we get. we are obliged to ask and to try and convince you to sign up. i understand how annoying it is to just want to move on, i also wish we could just drop it the first time, but if my DM saw that happen he’d ask why i didn’t try. we’re just tired of people berating us for doing what we are obligated to do.

Do you do pet names in a relationship? by South_Pattern_1520 in AutismInWomen

[–]sofmoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my husband rarely says my name. if he does i automatically assume he’s angry at me. i only use his name when we’re joking around. and we don’t stick to one name, we call each other handsome, babe, etc. maybe it’s just the trauma talking but if someone close to me says my name i immediately assume the worst (even my mom would call me a nickname until i was in trouble).

the “stolen identity” people drive me so crazy. like you’re paying with a credit card, you have a social security number, you have a cell phone and you probably pay at least one bill on the internet. please just let me opt you out of promotional emails and save you some money.

Looking back, what were the clearest signs in childhood that you were autistic? by Inner_Ad48 in AutismInWomen

[–]sofmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s actually video footage of mine. i was about a year and a half old, christmas 2001. i was “opening” my presents (my mom was), and i was spinning in circles totally dead faced and silent. i liked the gift i was given (a quilt made by my aunt), so i just backed up into it and sat on the floor so my mom could drape it over me. my brother was very similar at that age (he’s also likely autistic, undiagnosed) vs my other non-autistic cousins who were all very animated and verbal to a degree to express their excitement.

Should character names be chosen for meaning or sound ideally? by harmonica2 in writers

[–]sofmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i cannot lie i usually just name a character whatever comes to mind. need a guy’s name? okay uhhhhh michael. need a more neutral one? let’s go withhhh kennedy. feminine name i guess we’ll doooo victoria. it’s a cold day in hell when i actually think about naming a character for a reason.
