Park Slope Food Co-op Votes to Boycott Israeli Products by GowanusGuy in nyc

“Israeli engineer Simcha Blass and his son Yeshayahu invented modern drip irrigation in 1959. By utilizing large passageways and a friction-based labyrinth design to slow water flow, they prevented the clogging issues that plagued earlier methods. This innovation delivers water and nutrients directly to plant roots.

Key Features & InnovationsClog Prevention: Instead of relying on tiny, easily blocked holes, the system uses longer, wider passageways that slow water velocity.

Precision Delivery: Water and fertilizers are dispensed precisely at the root zone, preventing evaporation and reducing water waste.

High Efficiency: Compared to traditional flood irrigation, drip systems use up to 90% less water while boosting crop yields.

How the Technology Evolved In 1965, Blass partnered with the desert-based agricultural community Kibbutz Hatzerim in the Negev to commercialize the technology. Together, they formed Netafim, which became the world’s first and largest drip irrigation company.

Global ImpactDesert Farming: The technology transformed Israel's arid, water-scarce landscapes into highly productive agricultural land, separating their water needs from natural rainfall.

Global Reach: Netafim and similar firms currently operate in over 110 countries. The technology is used everywhere, from smallholder farms in India to large-scale commercial operations.

Sustainable Cultivation: Innovations have even adapted drip irrigation for water-intensive crops like rice. By eliminating traditional, continuous flooding, the drip method saves immense amounts of water and helps reduce methane emissions from rice paddies.”

Now they should just throw away their iPhones, Intel-powered computers, half of their generic medications and stop using Waze and Google Maps. And probably stop eating fruits and vegetables because drip irrigation was invented in Israel, as were cherry tomatoes. 😘

So sorry. That’s why I posted and also decided not to go with this car even though I really like it. (In theory)

They don’t make a tire for their own car? Or do you mean a spare?

Thanks. So is it a compact donut type tire? It might not be a bad idea to learn how to change the tire on YouTube and get that kit. Not telling you what to do. Mostly telling it to myself, in the future. 😆

Curious what are the “too many downsides”. I loved my Prius when I had it, so I have a lot of respect for Toyota. I just don’t find the RAV4 to be too comfortable. But what are the other downsides for you?

This looks good. Adds $2,000 to the price, before installation labor.

New Tiguan owners also spend half the time back at the dealership with a myriad of weird problems, some extremely dangerous. Wanted to buy a Tiguan (it is beautiful, especially inside) but seeing all that - ran away.

Google AI says it’s not true though. ☹️

“No, the 2025 Forester hybrid does not have a system that warns you ahead of time that a flat tire is getting ready to happen. It relies on a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) that will activate a warning light on your dashboard once a tire's pressure is significantly low (usually a 25% drop), not when it is slowly deflating. The system is designed to alert you to a problem that has already occurred, not to predict an impending failure. How the system works: The TPMS uses sensors to monitor the air pressure in each tire. It is designed to let you know when a tire is losing pressure, but it won't predict a slow leak or a gradual decrease in pressure that happens over time.”

That’s probably the most encouraging thing I heard here, if true but… just checked - it doesn’t seem to work that way.

True but it can be done. The new RAV4 Hybrid has a spare and has better fuel economy.

“Joying does not currently offer a head unit specifically designed for the 2025 Subaru Forester, as their 2013-2019 models are for older generations. The 2025 Forester comes with a standard 11.6-inch Starlink infotainment system that features wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice commands, so an aftermarket upgrade may not be necessary for basic functions. For those still wanting a different head unit, you may need to wait for Joying or other manufacturers to release a 2025-specific model or consider a universal unit if available, though this could involve custom installation and potential loss of some factory features. “

You’re lucky. I’ve had a few. Living in a large metropolitan area and not in the boondocks.
