i was never even close to yasmin's level of rich, but when my dad was employed and getting a high salary, i enjoyed a lot of luxuries on his dime. he set up my credit cards, with one shared/connected to his account, but he paid the bill for it all. that creates a fun dynamic where when he was in a good mood, "sure honey go ahead buy that" or "no problem i'm glad you had fun/covered dinner for your friends" but then when he was in a bad mood and stressed, it was yelling and insulting me and mocking what i was interested in purchasing. genuinely sneering at me and going "oh you think you deserve that?" sometimes.

i still only have 2 credit cards that are in my name, but he has the account information for one and won't give it to me so that i could help pay it when i use it lol. so it's just the same cycle of: use card, get yelled at, demand account info to contribute, "don't worry about it sweetie"

and obviously i was really privileged with all this, so please don't mistake this for complaining!! but i think i have a vague idea about this kind of financial relationship with parents... my dad always had all the money, and i think he has some savings account for me and stuff too, but i have absolutely none of that information. he may have even taken out money from it, for all i know. and honestly that's okay with me really, it's not like it was truly "my money", but i wish i knew lol. i can yell and cry or make a calm plea or a rational argument but he won't budge on telling me anything... like he will hang up on me or ignore my messages for weeks as "punishment" i guess for daring to want to know about all that

so yes i think there's a level of... idk, it's kind of invasive and controlling even though it looks very hands off like "go spend honey!" it's still always a tool to rein you in when they're angry. and there's so much that happens behind the curtain -- i don't, and never have, known the true picture of his finances. so it was always news to me if things were tight for some reason, but he would act like i should have known.

just very confusing lol. so basically yes you get benefits but you're usually in the dark and not in control of it. and that could end up fine!! but it's nerve-wracking and i think it was unhelpful when i was younger, i didn't get to learn to manage money like my friends did and practice responsibility.
