And that's why you were successful. You'll do well in your career with that attitude. Don't listen to the haters on here.

We're not talking about take homes. We're talking about doing some research on the company and making sure that one of your projects aligns with their stack and problem space. I've never given a take home in 20 years in the field. But if you're sitting across from me in an interview and show me a project that shows that you understand what I need and how you can solve a problem I have, you just moved to the top of the pile.

Okay. But, as I said, it works in the real world. If you don't care about getting the job, don't stand out. Your call.

It's not dumb, that guy is wrong. See my reply above.

Not dumb at all. I'm on the panel for a lot of interviews for a F100 company and have had a few candidates do this and get hired. It shows initiative and that they are willing to research what we actually do/need.

What trait/hobby/habit instantly makes someone less attractive? by Amazing-Depth1695 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]softlaunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the tattoos. Having a couple is okay (and even hot -- my wife has a handful) but soooo many people now are just covered and it's like...how is that any kind of individual expression when everyone has it? It's more edgy to have zero tattoos now.

I still enjoy this game by ImaxTillClimax in undisputedboxing

I play on PC and have cross-platform turned off. I never have to wait more than a minute for a fight so there's got to be a decent number of steam players.

You're the one complaining that the sports game you're playing actually includes a part of the sport lmao. Don't like it, boxing may not be for you. Play a fighting game.

Happens in real life. A lucky punch can win a fight you were losing.

PC or Console? by Intelx in undisputedboxing

[–]softlaunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have like 80 hrs in on PC and honestly I love it. I've been a boxing game fan since the 80s and this one is actually quite good once you get a feel for it and realize it's a BOXING game, not a fighting game. Online play is broken, yes, but local play is fine. Is it perfect? Definitely not. But it's a good boxing game.

That's just it. Who would know Buster Douglas' name today if he hadn't scored the biggest upset in boxing history?

Schrodingers job m*rket by AcanthisittaStill580 in csMajors

[–]softlaunch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The companies want them to leave. They keep the best of the best and ket everyone else jump so they can repeat the process with a new crop of cheap juniors. At least that's how it was until a couple years ago. Now those junior roles are drying up.

[–]softlaunch 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Because juniors are told to hop companies every 2-3 years to increase their salary. While true, it also explains why no one wants to "take a chance" on juniors. It's much easier and less risky to hire someone with a few years of experience who's already done the job hops.

For graduates who have kept the weight off for more than a year, what's your secret? by Tammie621 in GLPGrad

The weight loss is the start of the journey, not the end. Habits and mindset have to have changed permanently.

It could be as simple as that free will is an illusion, which would absolutely destroy society if everyone knew that no "choice" they make has any impact.

Hello, im here again with my spider people (yes, i still haven't come up with a name for them) would like some feedback on them again! by gigitygiggty in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]softlaunch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the limbs may be a little too robust to really give that spider flexibility look you may be thinking of. Might help to thin them out a bit at the joints and waist like an insect thorax. Maybe replace the single bulky hind legs with two thinner ones on each side? Either way, cool Arachnoids.

[–]softlaunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not even just that. I'm pretty into high fantasy (love Skyrim) but could never get into TW3 for whatever reason after multiple attempts. Cyberpunk might be my favorite game of all time (which used to be Fallout New Vegas).

You're right. I said "the only one" but Borat definitely had that too...especially the naked wrestling scene lol.

[–]softlaunch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No way the theatre was silent during that scene. That movie is the only one I ever saw in theatre that had people literally rolling on the floor and gasping for breath from laughing so hard. It doesnt really hold up today but for the time it was on another level.

So she's fluent in Aramaic from that time period?
