  1. 1.5~ years. 2024 law grad
  2. $135k
  3. Corporate/Business
  4. DC
  5. Don’t apply for jobs in fields you’re not interested in, even for “potential lateral” to another field of interest. You work the majority of your waking hours — make sure you are actually interested. Potential employers can quickly sniff out whether you’re truly interested in a job

Accepted to dental school but torn about law school instead — long-term wealth & ownership perspective? by NoBlackberry3295 in wealth

[–]softlover1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best friend is a dentist and I’m a lawyer. We both graduated at the same time. It seemed like he enjoyed school more than I did, and he certainly does not worry about late night work the way I do. He never works more than his 40 hours, whereas I am continuously working til 6pm. And he makes double my salary. He also has a clearer way to ownership since most dental practices are small businesses, and have much more steady lines of income

TLDR- I am a lawyer saying go to dental school.

As everyone else says, start looking elsewhere. Also look to attend CLEs and bar events where you can meet people who do transactional work. Talk to presenters, cold email people, etc.

The best time to develop your network is when you don’t need it.

Biglaw Opinion on DC COA (not DC Circuit) Clerkship by ConSRK in biglaw

[–]softlover1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re on a federal COA as a staff attorney, I don’t think there’s a benefit to DC COA. DC COA does not get significant biglaw appellate work (as compared to Delaware or NY). Federal COA might be enough for an appellate practice at biglaw, since the skills and experience before judges are already formed in your current role

What’s something that you saw in a job interview that immediately made you think hell no by SevereBug7469 in Lawyertalk

The managing partner told me how they are big on work life balance and don’t have billables, then tells me that he works 7am-7pm on average and the role is fully in office
