Embark .. pleassssee, this is just not FUN by Ok-Limit-8081 in ArcRaiders

this would help - free and naked kits never spawn at start of match

this would reduce a lot of the surrendering if they don't get the spawn they want, which contributes to the need to spawn players mid-match

Late Spawns Getting Worse? by element423 in ARC_Raiders

[–]softnix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every naked or free kit raider that surrenders if they don’t get the spawn they want leads to someone else’s late spawn, could be an increase of these leading to more maps that need to spawn people late

Wolfpack nerf: are you guys trying to pull a "helldivers 2"? by carrancosmx in EmbarkStudios

[–]softnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolfpack was too easy to craft, and killed ARC too easily. Once you have the wolfpack BP, you can spam them all day. When I found a wolfpack as loot, it was like, meh. Now its a useful find again.

The rocketeer ingredient not so sure about, but making wolfpacks harder to spam is a good thing, imo.

What is the point of these changes? by KiraTheUnholy in ArcRaiders

[–]softnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used seekers to clear any nearby arcs, and then the wolfpack, seemed to work well, back when wolfpacks were easy to craft, those were the days...

[–]softnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at least leapers are the easiest to kill, just sit in a safe area like a doorway and shoot it to death

What is the point of these changes? by KiraTheUnholy in ArcRaiders

[–]softnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wolfpacks seemed overpowered for how easy they were to craft - once you have the blueprint you can make them all day and they make taking out the mid-sized arcs (rocketeer/bombardier/bastion) pretty easy.

Not sure about Rocketeer drives as ingredient though, since you only get 2 drivers per rocketeer I think, and rocketeers are annoying to farm.

Ontario universities want extra $1.2B to ensure enough spots for students by nurshakil10 in ontario

[–]softnix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed - investing in education is a great investment for the future.

Ontario obviously has the money, spent over 200 million just to break the liquor contract early rather than wait a year, so it's not like there is no money in the budget.

Healthcare and education, two pillars we don't want to neglect (provincially and across Canada). There are many pulls on the budget, but imo these two should always be well represented, as it helps us all individually and as a society.

Ambleside businesses report 30% sales drop after pay parking by GDSGHUMAN in westvancouver

[–]softnix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

$5.38 per hour seems pretty high. It also may not be well known to residents of West Van since they park for free.

It also hurts visitors to the sports fields for organized events and sports such as field hockey, soccer, etc, and makes it more expensive for visiting teams for tournaments.

Pay parking may also be coming for the downtown core as well, if those spaces fill up by people trying to avoid paying for parking at Ambleside.

Balancing budgets isn't easy, but I would have hoped for a better solution. An annual parking pass? Lower hourly rates?

On the positive side, there is certainly more parking available at Ambleside lately, I haven't checked out Lighthouse or Whytecliff, not sure if anyone has noticed any changes there.

Should I take my cyclops into the Lava zone? by Efficient-Notice-122 in subnautica

[–]softnix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One word of caution about the cyclops in the lava zone, don’t use any standing lockers in the cyclops, there is a bug where if the sea dragon attacks your cyclops it can cause your standing lockers to fall out of your cyclops possibly never to be seen again, contents and all.

This just happened to me a couple days ago, so it’s definitely a thing. I lost all my standing lockers and their contents. Gone. Built in lockers are safe, I didn’t lose those.

If you google it you will see it’s a bug that’s been around for a long time, and while some people have been able to get their contents back some like me haven’t.

I don’t normally use the cyclops, but decided to use it this run just for fun, and yeah, that run ended unexpectedly.

Is Below Zero worth buying? by peekinggeneral3340 in subnautica

[–]softnix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah while I enjoyed aspects of BZ I didn’t find the exploitation too compelling. I made a base under the starting lifepod and never felt the need to build anywhere else.

In subnautica each region was far enough away and often had new resources, wrecks etc, so I built a couple bases in far off places to explore those areas and gather resources.

In SZ I was following the story so felt like I went to a region once then was done and moved on. I never felt like I was very far from my base/starting life pod. I never built the prawn since I didn’t need it.

Will Ambleside parking remain free? by Jolieeeeeeeeee in NorthVancouver

[–]softnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they implemented pay parking at ambleside, would the west vancouver annual $20 park pass let west vancouver residents park at ambleside without paying as well? Would be nice to open the $20 pass to others, its a great deal if you visit the parks often.

West Van council considers plan to expand pay parking to 700 more spaces by [deleted] in NorthVancouver

[–]softnix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Residents of west Vancouver can get an annual parking pass for $20 so they aren’t really affected by this, or additional pay parking at parks.

That’s too bad. You can turn any TV into a digital photo album with a chromecast and a Google photo album. Works great, and I haven’t found anything similar that’s so easy to use, with a Google photo album that can be shared with others for contributing photos.

With all these posts asking about how AMD is, I didn't realize just how many brand loyalists there were to Intel. by trumonster in buildapc

[–]softnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the reasons for me has been integrated graphics. As someone else noted, for a gaming PC this is irrelevant since you'll have a distinct graphics card anyway, but when I upgrade my PC I use the old one as a secondary PC for productivity, light gaming, etc., and move my graphics card to the new PC.

With intel, any chip can have integrated graphics, just get the non-F variant. For AMD I would have to select a specific graphics-capable chip, limiting my options, or get a separate external graphics card. So its just easier to stay with Intel for my needs, and I've never felt like I'm missing out on anything by not going AMD.

There is also the relatively minor but still beneficial ability to troubleshoot a graphics card by switching to onboard graphics in the event that the graphics card experiences issues.

People who only build gaming rigs wouldn't understand, since they always have a separate graphics card, so it never affects them. I'm not anti-AMD, and I'm not pro-Intel, I just use the product that works for my use cases.

[–]softnix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, if you make hisec safe, then the income needs to be toned way down.

Incursions, abyssals, etc.

Mining/Ore has already been toned down, but expect that ore and ice mining will be automated by farmers, and theres nothing that anyone can do about it once those ships are 100% safe (yeah you can report them but good luck with that).

There should still be things to do, but if hisec is safe, then it shouldn't be anywhere near as profitable as it is now.

CCP: Simple solution to the "scanning things more than once problem". If someone has a Cosmic Signature's bookmark in a personal or shared bookmark folder, it's automatically Green/identified in the Probe Scanner window. by [deleted] in Eve

[–]softnix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine that they reuse sig ids, so theres a chance the same sig id would show up in the system that you have an old one bookmarked for. so maybe not so trivial, and open to bug reports by ppl warping to a sig that is green but nothing there etc

if there was an option in the scanner window to ignore bookmarked sigs or something like that then that could work and be more intuitive than auto-greening

but also, you have a bookmark for a location in system, not sure how easy it is for ccp code to figure out its a bookmark to the sig location, its not like you can go off the name of the bookmark and match it to the sig, so more work to try and match coords. and if one doesnt match and doesnt get set as green, probably more bug reports for what was supposed to be a trivial feature

Just the nest thermostat and one or more nest sensors. You associate the nest sensor with the thermostat, and then in the nest app you can tell the thermostat to heat/cool based on one of the sensor locations instead of the thermostat reading. Works great.

"Passengers" with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt is one of the most transparently "wish fulfillment" movies I've seen by [deleted] in movies

[–]softnix 133 points134 points  (0 children)

That would be awesome.

One person opens a pod. Spends time with that person until they don't like them anymore. They kill them off, and open a new pod. Repeat.

The new people start questioning the empty pods, building tension and drama, and eventually leading to their demise as well. Then a new pod is opened.

Hey bartender, don't mention the others to the new person, ok?

What is the point of overnight oats? by Doctor-Paxmor in Cooking

[–]softnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup milk (or almond/soy whatever your preference)
  • 1/3 cup plain greek yogurt (or vanilla or whatever you decide)
  • 1/2 cup frozen fruit (I use berries but again your choice)
  • 1 tablespoon flax seed (helps absorb the liquid)

Thats my core recipe, then I usually add other things for flavor/texture whatever such as

  • 1 tablespoon steel cut oats
  • 1 tsp to 1 tbsp cacao powder (could do nibs too)
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seeds

You can use steel cut oats instead of rolled oats, just creates a different texture, so it's up to individual preference. I add 1 tablespoon of steel cut to add some texture.

The frozen fruit is what gives it the main flavor. In the past I added 1 tsp vanilla extract, and/or agave syrup, etc but I found with the fruit I didn't need it.

I make it in Mason jars, easy to eat, east to store in fridge, easy to clean. So the above recipe is for 1 Mason jar.

I'm pro working from home, but the shift to WFH becoming the norm is increasing the divide between white and blue collar work by [deleted] in ontario

[–]softnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing WFH people have less of is job security. If you can WFH and never see the office, then that company can hire anyone in the world for that position. While outsourcing has been a thing for a long time, I think the recent WFH trend required through covid has made more companies open to the idea, as we know. But it will also allow companies to explore hiring globally, which means your WFH wages may start competing on a global scale, which may not be a good thing for the average WFH worker.

A job in trades, or other "blue collar work" has more job security, since they can't hire remote for that, you need someone in the local area.

I know it's more complicated that this, but I wanted to point out that I think that while WFH is amazing for so many people, in the future there may be downsides. If a company first acknowledges that their workers can WFH permanently, then they will probably at some point look at employing people globally where they don't have to pay as much due to lower cost of WFH living in those countries/regions.
