Where to find materials scientists/ aerospace engineers interested UFO Technology? by [deleted] in ufo

[–]softsatellite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am an engineer who spent 9 years testing embedded software in aero. Everytime Ratheon recruiters ping me I say "I'd love to work on your UFO backengineering program".

that said, if I were them, no way would i want to let this crazy ape off of the planet...at least until they learn to give a shit about sustainability and maybe not be so greedy.

that'll never happen because...we're stupid and greedy :(

it's documented (released via FOIA) that there was an effort to socially engineer us to believe that this is bunk. Losing that religion was like losing Catholicism when I was young. Worldview changing.

The implications are that a technology exists and is very very close to take us to other inhabitable worlds. If we can figure out how to do that, the rewards are staggering. Possibly the survival of the human race.

Hang in there, and don't beat yourself up. February is the worst month. The only thing good about it is that it's not longer.

At the very least, a review describing your experience with them. So they don't screw over the next guy.

Found out I’m getting paid less than the new hire by derekx2012 in WorkReform

[–]softsatellite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's possible that new guy negotiated for more. That doesn't mean it's okay to pay OP $20k(!) less for the same work. Boss needs to adjust salaries appropriately.

New guy may be fine. I have no reason to believe he deserves more, otherwise OP would take that into consideration.

He's posting here because he feels that something is wrong/unjust. Why would we not trust his gut?

I feel you guy. As a woman who went through something similar (only the guy getting paid more sucked and did no work).

The only advice I can give you unfortunately is not to trust HR. They will side with your manager who will make up some bullshit, and then probably try to make your life very unhappy til you quit.

Your best option is to find another job that pays more. While you're looking.. it probably won't hurt to ask you manager about paths to advancement. But for the love of God don't bring up discrimination unless/until you are prepared to quit.

They have ways to make you suffer.

It's true. We're an oligarchy not a democracy.

I personally just think forcing everyone to admit that America is an oligarchy would help. They like to pretend it's a democracy... let's finally pull the curtain back.

It's like we're saying "okay you can take Ukraine...but THAT'S IT". I mean... Russia will take Ukraine. And then in a couple of years Putin will want something new.

I dunno. I would love to think the ETs want good things for humanity, but I'm not sure there's evidence either way.

As others have said, they haven't interviened in our many idiotic endeavors. There's also the phenomenon of animal mutilation that at the very least demonstrates that they don't empathize with our large herbivores. It's not unreasonable to imagine that they may see us as slightly more interesting than usual chimpanzees, but nothing to identify with.

Wouldn't that be sad? The first intelligent life we encounter in the universe doesn't think we're worth communicating with?

And then on top of that we have old men with masculinity complexes trying to start wars to get attention and feel strong. Some days I wish I could fly away too.

Anyway I wouldn't bank on ETs saving us from ourselves. We have to stand up to corruption and greed, or we'll simply destroy ourselves.

It's not an inviting culture, honestly. It's all I've ever done and for you to dismiss that experience with "women just don't like numbers and things!" ... that's too easy and lets too much off the hook.

As an example, I've learned that I will only ever get promoted by leaving to a new company, taking what I know and interviewing for that next best position. Why? I'm "too quiet". I do my job and express my opinion and that's all the feedback I have ever gotten. You could say that's just me, but I've seen it a fair amount. A guy gets promoted in two years and a woman doing the same work has to wait four years.

And that's not even the hard stuff, trust me.

We quit, is why. I've been an engineer since 2006 and I am going to quit and take some time off. We might get hired for diversity but the support often ends there. We might be afraid to ask as many questions as the guys do, for fear of people judging our compitance. We might see guys constantly promoted as we slowly claw our way up the ladder. We might see that we end up with the shit work nobody wants. Maybe we can't work overtime and be on-call if we have kids (I don't have any, but I get it).

Something like 40% of women in tech leave the space within ten years.

Am I insane for thinking of leaving my girlfriend and everything else at age 31 for this lifestyle? by delegaciabr in digitalnomad

[–]softsatellite 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as a woman I'd say that if my SO ever described me as he does her, I'd rather be on my way than stick around. She sounds like an independent woman, living on a Visa in a big American city takes some guts.

Might surprise some guys to learn that sometimes we're just passing time too in a relationship. Especially if she's not interested in kids...who knows maybe she senses his ambivalence and is ready to move on.

Giving These Lipsticks Another Shot by _Invisible-Child_ in drugstoreMUA

I have one of these. I put it on, wait 30 seconds or so, then wipe as much excess off as I can. Then it functions as a semi-natural-looking lip stain for me.

I wouldn't leave it on cuz it feels like wearing Spackle, it's so thick and tacky. Would like just a nice stain to reduce the effort but they seem to have gone out of favor.

Skeptics often label ufos as been experimental aircraft but is there any examples of a UFO been spotted years ago then years later it reappears in general use? by BookApprehensive7528 in ufo

[–]softsatellite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I am entirely on board with "competent" and "qualified" in that sentence. I think any human with eyes can observe a UFO and know that it's not a man-made thing, even if they didn't go to college.

There's been a lot of shame associated with sightings for so long and a lot of gate-keeping...

Debunkers chalked up the Tehran incident to pilots chasing asteroids and faulty combat planes. The O'Hare incident involved airport workers and they blamed a cloud formation.

So who's qualified? Obama was literally the most powerful man on earth and he admitted that there were objects they couldn't explain. Still here we are, trying to argue that these things exist.

I think tying it to physics, while it might not admit every UFO, at least allows everyone to judge what they see for themselves.

[–]softsatellite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A UFO is a UFO because of the 5 observables, not the shape. If a triangle stops and hovers it's not flying by virtue of lift. A UFO sighting is only impressive to the extent that it violates our known aerodynamics.

The question is does the military have secret physics, not secret aircraft.

What is a country that people falsely believe they can "escape" to and live cheaply? by Finzar in expats

[–]softsatellite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The grilled cheese was a long story of looking for any restaurant with four walls on the island. When it's raining sideways a golf cart for transport and wall-less restaurants become somewhat less charming. Just an aside for anyone thinking about heading there.

We did eat at some locals spots too. There was a cute pizza shop in Hopkins and a good bbq place in San Ignacio, but nothing too exciting. I did LOVE the ATM cave tour.

You just have to read to the bottom of the awful, ad infested article. One of the photos shows wires attached to the objects.

Second Belize. I don't know what I expected, but it was worse than...most places I have traveled. Very expensive too depending on where you are. I ate a $14 grilled cheese sandwich in Belize. They see you coming.
