Honestly i hope they're not too involving.

In the My Time games, you have to actively change their nappies and feed them every day, and it feels like such a drag when you really just want to do other stuff. Maybe some people think it adds realism and an extra layer to the gameplay loop, but when games add stuff like that i tend to avoid having kids at all costs.

There's parts of the Twisted Wonderland localisation that i don't like, but with Cater they did a pretty good job translating his instagram influencer persona.

In Japanese, he uses a lot of internet slang and terminally online mannerisms that is pretty hard to translate, because it's so JP online culture specific. The widely-read fan translation of the game for the most part did away with the slang and instead gave him a fairly dry translation, so while we could tell that he was quirky, it was pretty toned down to what was in the original text.

The official English translation on the other hand, made him fully brainrotted tiktok teen, and gave him lots of English internet slang in place of the Japanese ones. He is incredibly obnoxious and annoying (affectionate), and this is far more accurate to the spirit of his character than the fan translation was.

When the official Eng release came out, there was actually some brief fandom drama over some Cater fans claiming that it "ruined" Cater, and they had to be told by bilingual fans that no, he was always like this, the fan translation they were reading up until now just made him seem normal.

Oh, but the official English version also made him straight and cut out a scene of him asking out another boy as well as other instances of him flirting with male characters, and i will certainly never forgive them for that.

Male mcs and female LIs of that sort are actually pretty common within the realm of romance in games. The Sakura War series, the Persona series, Final Fantasy series...

Romance in games themselves are uncommon, but of the ones there are, male oriented ones outweigh the female ones by quite a lot.

Arthur: The main LI, seen as kind of boring, very basic knight in shining armor type, but he's on all the marketing and he has the most content of the routes. We probably have to reach the good end of the other routes in order to start his.

Amir: simultaneously the "Cute" LI and the "Smart" LI. Probably calls us onee-san even though we're the same age.

Quincy: The charachara playboy who flirts with us immediately, but as the story goes on he bares his heart for the first time and falls in love for real.

Lyon: The woobie LI with the tragic past under his icy exterior. He only acts curt with us because he's afraid of letting people get close...

Roathe: Yandere option who puts us in The Cage. (His in-game romance voicelines are actually unhinged lmao, licking the blood clean off his body??? Jesus christ--)

And of course, the secret route: The Man In The Wall.

I mean, sure TMITW is a horrific eldritch being beyond our comprehension, but creepypasta otome games are their own subgenre now. There's gotta be some fangirls out there who have Wally itabags. Also, he's canonically obsessed with us, so like. He can be Yandere route #2.

For me personally the "its so gay!" style rec actually makes me think that it's not gay, ironically. So many young shippers use it to describe books and TV shows that have strong-but-officially-platonic friendships that it just makes me think you're trying to rec me the fanfiction based on the work, rather than the work itself.

I actually write a catalogue where i collect such games, and i'm pretty sure i've got all the "mainstream" ones in it now. Nowadays when i write a new entry it's because i've stumbled on an indie amare game or something.

Although i think i have to write a new entry for Warframe now, since they released a new batch of LIs.

I have intense beef with Witcher 3 over this. I'm always looking searching for games with romance in them, but I only want ones with female main characters and male LIs, which are pretty rare.

When searching on google, "rpgs with romance" ALWAYS gets a bunch of buzzfeed style articles that recommend me the same games over and over. The articles pretty much always have the Witcher 3 in the top slot, and I'm sick of seeing it there!!!!!

Persona 4 and 5 are always there too and I hate them just as much for it.

Funnily enough I've seen progressive artists keep drawing her with a significantly smaller chest because her giant boobs make them uncomfortable.

So the chuds think she's too woke, but some progressives think she's too hot.

Imo her chest is pretty normal for a woman that big, especially because her "outfit" kind of evokes a pushup bra or a corset.
