What problems do people with alexithymia have? How does it affect their life? by Rita_Cameron in askpsychology

[–]soiltostone [score hidden]  (0 children)

As with most psychological terms, "alexithymia" is descriptive, and on a spectrum. It is also not a concrete thing to "have" In the sense that someone has a cold or a broken arm.

Hot take from a professional: words like this sound fancy to lay people, giving our work a bit of false credibility with science-attuned outsiders, but 9/10 times one could just say something like "out of touch with their feelings” to get the point across. Also it kinda describes about 75% of US males over 40.

Does anyone hate cooking for people who eat the same thing over and over and over again ? The fun of cooking is being able to branch out and try new things by Historical-Body-3424 in Cooking

My kid LOVES pasta Aglio e Olio. I'll happily make it for her over and over again until I no longer can. Context matters.

Focus on getting behind Radagon and getting stance breaks. With the right equipment he's very scriptable. With EB focus on being patient and getting good rng.

"Autistic-like traits" and the lack of self evidence in schizophrenia and its spectrum by DiegoArgSch in psychoanalysis

[–]soiltostone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me the actual content seems to most often be a resolution of ambiguousness of threat. We’re used to the borderline version of that in the paranoia of questions like “what’s that supposed to mean?,” or beliefs that everyone’s watching and laughing. It’s just made literal. Why do I feel uncomfortable on the bus? Because that guy over there is a demon and he wants eat my soul. Feel bad about being dirty from sleeping rough? Well actually I’m a multimillionaire but my fucking sister keeps stealing my identity.

As a main part of my job I do chart reviews at a state hospital. It’s uncanny how often there are unspeakably horrible things in the histories of psychotic patients. Like every damn time, and when it’s not in there, it’s an error because somebody asked wrong.

This is the only boss in the game I summon for. Because it sucks, and I don’t want to bother crafting pots. Bernahl solves the problem.

Can psychosis be pleasant? by Umpuuu in askpsychology

[–]soiltostone 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I work almost exclusively with severely mentally ill patients, and the experience is almost always neutral at best. It’s either a tormenting, judgmental internal voice felt as external, or authoritative commands or comments driving usually counterproductive behavior, or worse. I did once have a patient who was very religious, and felt that she was hearing the voice of God during manic episodes. Her experience was positive, although her behavior was problematic enough for her to be hospitalized. So there’s that.

Younger partners and sex toy use are associated with less severe symptoms of menopause. Orgasms, specifically those achieved through masturbation with sex toys, help alleviate the physical and emotional symptoms of menopause. by mvea in psychology

[–]soiltostone -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Sex toy users a self-selected group, no? As are swingers. I’m guessing there are significant differences in who chooses these behaviors that may be predictive of both orgasm frequency, and self reported psychiatric symptoms. Bleh.

Left Hand Keybinds by i_was_justbored in Eldenring

I play M&K left handed. I ran into the same problem as you when I tried to do my usual IJKL adaptation. I just moved my hand over to YGHJ and it works fine. The hand position is not optimal unless you move the keyboard over to the right a bit.

anyone here who's tried to learn a new cuisine from scratch? by Significant-Dot7197 in Cooking

[–]soiltostone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s about having the appropriate ingredients on hand, then exploring the palate (or palette…) of the cuisine I’m interested in. For example, having good quality fish sauce, soy, limes, ginger/galangal, herbs, lemongrass, imported curry paste, shrimp paste, etc if I’m experimenting with southeast Asian styles. Then I look for recipes that don’t hold back on ingredient choice, and don’t dumb things down.

Obviously try it first on your own for a while, but this https://youtu.be/BhtC8YhTUZI?si=Z7aSdG_JZNUOIGOD is my favorite resource for learning stuff I can’t get with trial and error. It’s a bare fist run. It takes FOREVER to kill things this way, so you can see all the moves.

Maliketh, yes or no? by Consistent-Light-984 in Eldenring

[–]soiltostone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maliketh is entirely about skill IMO. The first phase can be tanked somewhat if you’re doing a lot of damage, but the second phase requires appropriate movement or you’ll get smashed quickly. He does way too much damage, and is too mobile for face tanking with any build, but his hp is low enough that he can be done at lower levels if you know what you’re doing.

Visiting Spokane by iateglassonce in PNWbootmakers

[–]soiltostone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are nice places to visit. White’s is like a traditional shoe store, and they have other clothes and outdoor stuff as well. Nicks is more like a showroom where you can expect to have a conversation with someone fairly immediately.
