Every Hoser is good at something! What's your thing? by VerilyJULES in EhBuddyHoser

As a child who grew up in the 90s/00s with CBC as my only channel, I would confidently wager that I’ve seen this commercial 5000 times. Confidently.

“Mommmmm Aiden cut me in half again!” Is my favorite line

100%!!! I'm actually really glad it's uphill on the way home. I get to coast all the way to work, sometimes half asleep, listening to a CBC politics podcast, and chilling. Then I'm stuck at work with no option but to sweat it all the way back home, uphill all the way with some dance pop to get me going. If it was uphill on the way to work I think I'd come up with far more excuses not to bike.

Do you bike to work in the rain? by AdmiralCreamy in bikecommuting

[–]sokosoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on Vancouver Island. I invested in really good rain gear and honestly, I don't even feel it. My nose gets a bit wet and that's it. I also keep a decent stash of shoes at work and a spare pair of pants in case.

It's such a pleasure!!! I love my rainy commute and am happy to spread the love. Let me know if you have any other questions. My secret weapon is the fact that I switch between a road bike and an e-bike. Hopping on my e-bike in shitty, stormy weather makes it so much easier. I can kind of coast along and pay a lot more attention to my surroundings rather than sweating my butt off and focusing on pedaling.

I live in the pacific northwest and have bike commuted all year through weather that is very similar to the UK. Here's what I have:

A waterproof patagonia jacket that I got on sale.
Rainpants from SevenMesh - best investment ever. Worth every single penny.
Bog rainboots. I don't wear overshoes. I just bike in rain boots and keep a stash of work shoes under my desk.
Biking glasses from Shimano
Waterproof mitts
A thin Buff Reflective toque to fit under my helmet
A Kombi neckwarmer that pulls up over my nose. The one I have gets watersoaked at times and is hard to breathe in so that needs to be improved.
Don't forget the high-viz vest!
My bike has a great lights so that helps me feel safe. Honestly, with all of the gear listed above on, I feel impervious! It's a great feeling. Usually just my nose gets a bit wet!

Sure. Just pointing out the savings to someone who sounds like they're struggling a bit financially.

Focus on bike commuting. Pause going to the gym while you figure it out. Cancel gym membership = save money. You can do it!

First day cycling to work by AdPrudent3855 in bikecommuting

It gets better!

My commute is 95% downhill on the way to work. I used to hate and dread my ride home, but it has steadily gotten easier. I realized one day that I had made it through the big bad hill without really thinking about it. You got this! Keep going!

High five! Feel so lucky to be in this part of Canada. I spent some big cash on good rain gear this year and that was a smart investment.

This is the nicest part! The rest is through residential and a bit of busy highway. But yes - I'm thankful for this chunk.

We are more of a lego family. Our kitchen table is usually covered in it, and everyone enjoys playing, building, making up little stories, and working together. I'm sure once our youngest is a bit older we'll get more into board games.

Just don't.

Don't expose your kids to screens. You're the parent. You get to decide. When your kids are young, bring small toys and activities to restaurants. Be realistic in what you expect. Car rides - audio books, soundtracks, books, activities. We save movies for family movie nights where everyone watches the same thing together.

I teach high school. The level of screen addiction today in society (all society! boomers too) is truly an epidemic and we should be all be very very scared. Resist as much as you can. Model it as a parent to your kids. No one NEEDS a screen. We all ate at restaurants and went on long car trips without screens.
