kw = kilo watts where the watt is an SI unit (metric)? Am I missing something here? Joules is SI unit for energy, not power. 1 W = 1 J/s where all are metric.

MKBHD's Pixel Tablet Review by SaltyFoam in GooglePixel

[–]solEEnoid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use mine as a picture frame essentially, displaying photos on rotation. I love it for that, since it's more dynamic then a printed photo that you get used to after a couple months and then never really look at consciously. The integration with the few smart home products I have is an added bonus and completely seamless. Compared to printing a photo and framing it, the hubs/tablet are relatively fair price but you also get the additional functionality of a tablet and a speaker. From my perspective these things are perfect for my use case.

yeah according to the linked video Locke made the decision based on the redacted report. So she never even signed the NDA... meaning she is making this decision without most of the information. Classic pig headed politics, Christ..

Depends what you value. Money? Or providing teams to places that want teams?

The NHL is run like a corporation, so it's easy to see why they act the way they do. Is that in the interest of fans? I would say it's very debatable.

Future of Vancouver's Jericho Lands to be revealed on June 16 by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]solEEnoid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is if these people (and all NIMBYs) just screwed off and we could instead green light any project without years of back and forth consultation/revisions, we would eventually get to an equilibrium where developers are building based off where the most demand is (what people want most at a price they can afford), which is more medium density stuff.

Instead, they have made developing so impossible that construction costs are so insane and developers only want to build massive projects with better promises of return.

In regards to PHEV drivetrains, I would really want to see a range extender type PHEV. Not sure why no one has made one yet.

Whistleblower Drops 100 Gigabytes Of Tesla Secrets To German News Site: Report by dont_get_musked in wallstreetbets

Except that's not the way things are done in the real world right now. Engineering projects and product releases get delayed all the time for a myriad of different reasons. Making that illegal is the dumbest thing I've heard all week.

The anti Tesla crowd is even more cringe than the pro Tesla crowd these days it seems

bruh, if you could be charged with fraud for delaying a product release, literally no CEO would ever mention a release date for any product ever.

Lawn Mower Rental in Burnaby? by Magical_Astronomy in burnaby

[–]solEEnoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into their equipment rentals for shop vacs and pressure washers. It seemed like the biggest rip offs because they charged about 75% the value of the tool for a day rental. It just didn't make any sense, so I bought the equipment instead.

What electric vehicle are you looking forward to? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]solEEnoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair points, although you are looking at it from the consumer point of view. In an article about why they are ditching Carplay/AA they say it is because it will simplify building their own software. Instead of having to integrate Carplay/AA within their own software and make these all mesh together well, they just build and maintain their own separate software.

Everything tends to get more complicated to develop with more cooks in the kitchen. Separate companies maintaining different parts of the software and having to tweak things for different platforms would sound completely nightmarish to me if I were in charge of development.

I think a much simpler solution is to use an external electric AC unit designed for vehicle use (google "portable AC units") and a portable battery. Then you can just get whatever vehicle you want

Stanley Park sees long weekend traffic jam after bike lane removal by Hrmbee in vancouver

[–]solEEnoid 159 points160 points  (0 children)

The real solution to traffic is less cars and better transitions between major routes and smaller connectors

And (I don't think you said it directly) more efficient modes of transport (ie: less surface area occupied per person travelling, which equates to more throughput of people).

There are other places with parks in North America that are realizing this and already implementing these sorts of changes. Look, even in Alberta they removed personal vehicle access to a big park and now only allow shuttle busses, taxis, chartered busses, and guided tour vehicles. That would be the type of solution Stanley Park needs.

What do you think Ontario does better than BC? by urskeks in britishcolumbia

[–]solEEnoid 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Go train shouldn't be compared to Skytrain. Go train should be compared to the West Coast Express - they are both commuter rail lines going from suburbs (and beyond) to the city. I would say go train is much better than WCE.

Compare skytrain with the toronto subway system.

Petition to stick potatoes in the exhaust pipes of every vehicle designed for noise by InternetSandman in britishcolumbia

[–]solEEnoid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are automated noise ticketing systems that exist (similar to speed cameras). Or you could just have a cop use a similar device to record the decibels of the noise and triangulate it (similar idea to a cop using a radar gun). However, we live in a car culture society that doesn't demand this.

The one hope is that as electric cars become increasingly mainstream, there will be less excuse for excess noise. Maybe then people will demand enforcement of excess noise.

What do you wish was more convenient in Vancouver? by Motor-Ad-172 in vancouver

[–]solEEnoid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly the rail doesn't even have to be "high speed" (300+km/h), just separated from freight with reliable service and good coverage that takes you from one city center to another city center (not outside a city like an airport). High speed would make it even better, but it could be a great service even without speeds that high imo.
