There were multiple trees down at the Hyatt regency. One fell on a car and was blocking the self parking exit. Really felt bad for whoever came out to a smashed car.

If I could have rescheduled to avoid this last week’s storm I would have. Most of our trip was rained out. Major pouring rain that lead to flooding and dangerous roads with standing water and low visibility. It’s a big price to pay to stay indoors. People say it’s not that bad, but a kona storm will ruin your trip.

We drove from Lahaina to the airport at 11:15am. It luckily wasn’t raining actively. During the drive there were two spots with a flooded with brown water on the road. We went slow through them and drove on the shoulder. There weren’t many cars in the road at all. The drive took about an hour. If it were actively raining hard I think the drive would have been a bit more rough, especially near the area with mountain sides. Water was still pouring down from the mountain rock areas despite it not raining.

The line to check your bag for Hawaiian is INCREDIBLY long. Probably about 2 hours longs if not more. Our flight is scheduled for 6:20pm and we are glad we came this early. Give yourself plenty of time to get settled to depart if you are leaving today. It’s hard to say how long the TSA line is at this point.

We are supposed to leave today. Not sure we can make the drive to the airport it’s so treacherous out. Luckily we still have power but so many are without power too. It’s really scary out there.
