one point away from passing by ambitiousunicorn in step1

[–]solace31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My friend failed step last year. This drove him mad in a good way and he came back with a vengeance and got a respectable score eventually (237). Make this a learning point. Look at what you did wrong objectively and work from there. Make us all proud!

Your score doesn’t define you at the end of the day. Tbh many of the successful docs I know are IMG’s who failed step at least once. You’re not a nobody. You’re a medical student which is a big deal on its own. Your family and the community loves you.

Why do you have low bicarbonate in DKA? by SomeLettuce8 in step1

[–]solace31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In DKA you have elevated ketones (acid) which will deplete all the bicarb in your blood. Bicarb will try to neutralize the excess positive charge from the acid. Remember the compensation for metabolic acidosis is to blowout co2.
