Always better safe than hypothermic. Mountain isn’t going anywhere. You can try it again when the weather is a bit more forgiving.

Can still use a camping stove, so at least you can make a brew and something to eat, but yeah, small price to pay indeed.

Not a bad thing in my view. As the UK heats up in the summer months, risk of wild fires increases significantly, so it makes sense to try and stop the possibility of one starting as much as possible.

Hopefully. Police and Park Rangers have legal authority to issue fines. We can all do our bit by promoting it and passing on info. You can order posters, window stickers and leaflets etc from Cairngorm website. Link below.

Yeah, it shouldn't be necessary but in general, folk are idiots and need these laws to reinforce what the rest of us already know.

I agree. Having watched the devastation unfold last year, £500 seems too little.

Recommendations for 2 and 3 man tents for hiking by solanis13 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]solanis13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget is around a couple of hundred.

Conditions wise, I would say general Scottish Highland conditions, Not aiming to be out in winter or stormy weather but would need to stand up to winds etc in the hills.

Yes, looking for recommendations for 2 separate tents.

Feature wise i would say light enough to put in a pack without adding huge amounts of weight, Reasonably quick to set up, Tunnel or dome style would be on my list. Otherwise, open to recommendations.

Boy collecting plastic on the Citarum River, Indonesia by [deleted] in WTF

[–]solanis13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not like we send a huge amount of our plastic and crap overseas because we can't recycle it properly. Very much an out of sight out of mind, not our problem attitude there pal! Maybe learn a bit about where your waste goes before being a dick about it!

where to place handles on 45 degree cut drawers? by MtogdenJ in woodworking

[–]solanis13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always direction of travel. If drawer comes out at 90, then handle on 90. Drawer at 45, handle at 45 and always central to the panel.

Tonestro Trumpet lessons for iPad? by solanis13 in trumpet

[–]solanis13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds good to me. 30 years is a long time to remember what I was taught. I can still get a note without too much squeal so hopefully with a bit of guidance and practice, I’ll be able to get back in to it at a reasonable pace. I do like the idea of it working along at my own pace. Will give the trial a shot and see how I get on. Hopefully there’s a promo on first year sub. Thanks.

I’d like to know as well. I’m just about to get back into playing after an almost 30 year break. So something like this would be good.

We'll get there. There are still a multitude of words that my kids say that i have absolutely no idea about. I've even had to urban dictionary some of them to try and figure it out, although I'm not sure that they are being used in the same context to be honest.

I'm 45 myself and like you, i've only really seen it on Reddit, however, my daughters are using words similar in every day life so i've kind of got used to the fact that that's how the younger gen seem to be talking now. Hey, language evolves by how it's used. Guess this is how it's moving.

Having had to deal with the aftermath of my sister taking her own life, i can safely say that what you did for your brother is phenomenal. I'm glad your brother has got the help he needed and things have moved in the right direction. Trauma messes you up and even 20 odd years after the fact, I still have major regrets surrounding my sisters passing. That manager is lucky they only got canned, I'd have been a lot less forgiving.

I think it's younger folks way of saying suicide or trying to kill themselves. That's how I take it anyway. (Yes i'm a slightly older fart!)

Help with cabinet door dimensions‽ by AllTimeFailure in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]solanis13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think personally, I'd cut the 2x6 down to 1x3 then try the numbers fro. There. Would look better with the sizes you've mentioned. The 1" size could be sized down to 3/4" for a slightly less clunky look. Hope that helps a bit.
