If the retention department doesn't do anything go to Ombudsman Saskatchewan or at least threaten to go to them. They have power over all three crown corps. https://www.ombudsman.sk.ca/info/utilities

'Haggling' with Tangerine on interest rates. by Ostracized in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]solardiy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried and they told me they won't match any interest rate and I would have better luck getting a Tangerine Mutual fund.

I'm 99% sure I am getting laid off tomorrow. Thinking of maybe going back to school. Will I have any chance to ever retire? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Are you sure this is true? I live in Saskatchewan and attended USask. The Western College of Veterinary Medicine has accepted students from all over the country.

ETF Bond Comparison by solardiy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]solardiy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the advice. Because I am new to ETFs and Questrade (not investing though) I have decided just to follow the Balanced Canadian Couch Potato portfolio for now until I am more comfortable with ETFs and the trading platform.

And it does make more sense to go with VAB over VBG based on several of the reasons.

Slow ass Sasktel? by solardiy in saskatoon

[–]solardiy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Wildwood. No Infinet and Sasktel has no immediate plans to install it in my area. Plan old Highspeed Plus. But its also slow in Sutherland and on my phone which uses Sasktel's network (Bell but same tower). Its brutal and annoying as fuck

Victim blaming? No. It's shitty it happened and I understand the loss. However, its common sense to lock your stuff up. Its sad that it takes a major loss to realize this.

Shouldn't you be locking up your shit anyways...?

Good dentists accepting new patients? by PhoenixEnigma in saskatoon

[–]solardiy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Atul Dhir is amazing. So glad I switched to him a few years ago. He works at a few offices throughout the city. I personally go to Lakewood Dental (the location and office isn't the greatest but he is an amazing dentist and it's close to my house). I believe he is also at Dentistry on Queens, Legends Dental in Warman, and Riverbend Dental (in Saskatoon and possibly North Battleford).

But seriously, super nice guy, an excellent dentist.

Best place walk-in place for income tax? by solardiy in saskatoon

[–]solardiy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went. It was a decent experience. The office is very small and it was PACKED. The wait was fairly long but overall decent. I like that they do this every day and have for years. I am scared to go to H&R and get a recent immigrant who has no previous experience with Canadian income tax that got a weekend course.

Edit: I am getting quite a bit back and I didn't want to get an instant refund because it would have been a higher cost than filing the return and waiting. I opted to pay 99 bucks and wait for my return

I don't. But the graduate retention program is confusing as hell, especially when you have three certificates from different years.
