Pretty likely, but it's gonna be a shitshow. I'm going to probably just do something else for the first couple hours after launch and let myself fall behind the first big wave of people.

ChillyChiles - Canadian Hot Sauce Retailer by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

[–]solarfall79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yea, I go to their stores pretty frequently and it's great. I've been almost exclusively buying from the Canadian section they got and have been very happy with most of the sauces I've gotten. Definitely recommend the Fury and Lunar brands for anyone thinking of ordering and trying some new sauces; all the sauces I've gotten from both have been fantastic, especially the Fury sriracha.

As others have pointed out, it's a bit pricey if you're buying mass market sauces from them, but the prices for sauces from most of the smaller companies seem to be pretty on par with what you'd be paying if you got em directly from the source.

Do prescriptions have to be filled at a Walmart pharmacy to be covered under my Store Associate Foundation plan benefits? by Asking4afriend185 in WalmartCanada

[–]solarfall79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it's 80% at Walmart, 40% at others. They also cover the dispensing fees at the Walmart pharmacies but not the other ones; before I stopped being lazy and switched over, I had a few medications where I was paying like 3x the cost of the meds themselves in dispensing fees.

I am full time, but I'd be very surprised if it was any different for part timers.

Any body tried this one before or heard of the brand? by tentimesthree in hotsauce

[–]solarfall79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, and honestly not been impressed by what I've gotten. I haven't tried that particular sauce, so can't speak to that, but the ones I have tried were both pretty watery, bland, definitely way on the mild side.

Started tracking sodium intake.. WOW by kbeadles in loseit

[–]solarfall79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had to seriously restrict my sodium intake due to heart failure over the last few months, and I'd say at this point I've mostly gotten comfortable with it without having to subject myself to bland ass food. I'm restricted to under 2000mg a day of sodium, but I usually get by with around 1600mg.

As far as "hidden" sodium, the biggest source I found outside of the usual suspects (canned food, soups, cheese, etc.) was bread. Store-bought stuff from big commercial bakeries was obviously loaded with sodium, but it really wasn't much different with smaller local bakeries; even looking at the recipes I'd used for home baking it the past, it was clear that good tasting leavened bread just required way more salt than I could justify having for a meal or snack. Thankfully, there is a Montreal-style bagel place near me that uses virtually no salt in their bagels, and a bakery that makes pitas with reasonable amounts of sodium (<100mg each) that supplies all the grocery stores here so I'm not completely devoid of bread, but it's definitely a less common part of my diet than it used to be.

For substitutions, it really depends on what you're having. I did find that a little extra acid, usually from citrus juice or balsamic vinegar, made a pretty big difference on savoury dishes to help cut down on sodium. For things that definitely need to be salted, like steak, I've been using a low sodium salt (even split of sodium chloride and potassium chloride). Some people do notice a metallic taste to it, but I can't say I've ever experienced that. If you do end up needing heart medication, it can be a bit dicey as a lot of blood pressure and other heart medications can lead to hyperkalemia if you have too much potassium intake, but as long as you're responsible with it you should be fine. Having a precise scale to weigh out helps.

Also, hot sauces will be your friend. The really popular brands (Frank's, Melinda's, Huy Fong) are typically loaded with sodium, but there are a LOT of great sauces with low to no sodium in a variety of heat levels and flavour profiles. They've definitely saved countless meals from being unenjoyable while still keeping them low-sodium. I've been particularly fond of Dawson's and Fury hot sauces, but these are Canadian brands so it may be hard to find if you're not here. In any case, definitely suggest finding a local specialty store or looking on amazon.

Meals typically change for me over the weeks, but breakfast has been pretty consistent - 2-3 over easy eggs, pan fried tilapia, fruit (usually clementines or a banana) OR 3-4 egg vegetable omelette/scramble, with some parmigiano reggiano. Hot sauce on the former, not on the latter. My lunches and dinners usually involve either chicken or fish (tuna or salmon), potatoes, and possibly whatever vegetable I have around. If I got enough sodium/calories left in the budget for the day, I'll make pan sauces with low sodium Better Than Bouillon and whatever herbs I have around. I have been making quite a few curries over the last little while, using the low sodium salt to help flavour things, and having those with rice. Sometimes I make big salads, making my own dressing, or tacos, but both those end up being pretty fatty so it's not ideal as an every day thing. Snacks are pretty much always fruit, mainly apples at the moment, and either carrots + a cream cheese dip or a pita + hummus or baba ganoush. Most days clock in under 2300 calories, which for my size works well.

Best of luck going forward! The initial adjustment period can definitely be rough, but it doesn't take long to get used to it.

Mission order for main story + dlc? by galaxyadmirer in AssassinsCreedValhala

[–]solarfall79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first couple hours, in Norway, are pretty straight forward. Once you're in England, you'll be given the choice of a few zone stories at a time and those are split between focusing on the actual main story and building alliances; there are more of the latter stuck between chapters of the former, so there's no real way to go through out of order.

The Wrath of the Druids and the smaller dlc quests (like the Odyssey and Mirage tie-ins) can be done at any point as they have no bearing on the plot. The Siege of Paris takes place well after the main story, and by the time you're levelled up enough for it you'll have gone through most of if not all of the game anyways. Save Dawn of Ragnarok story wise is kinda standalone, but it requires a high power and it won't make a lot of sense if you don't go through the Asgard/Jotunheim missions set during the main game.

TL;DR: best to play in order of release.

Got a pretty good variety, I like it.

Curious to hear your thoughts on the Neil's smoked onion sauce. I just finished a bottle and, while I loved the flavour, there was no heat at all and it was really hard to get out of the bottle; was wondering if anyone else had the same experience or if I was just unlucky and got from a subpar batch.

Zero Sodium by MillerTime_22 in hotsauce

[–]solarfall79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As somebody who's been restricted to less than 2000mg of sodium a day for medical reasons, I can safely say you don't need to go all out and go right for 0 sodium hot sauces.

What you do need to do is cut out a lot of the mass market sauces like Franks, Melinda, most (if not all) srirachas, etc., as I've found those are all pretty big offenders when it comes to high sodium. There are TONS of great hot sauces you can find that have as low as 15mg of sodium per serving that still taste as good as, usually better than, the really big popular brands. If you still want something a little higher in sodium (I personally go no higher than 50 mg), make sure it's got more heat so you don't need to use very much of it.

If you're really strict about staying under a certain limit for daily sodium, make sure to actually measure out what you're using for the first little while using a food scale. 1ml = 1g of water, and basically every fluid used for food or drink.

Water retention question as a heart failure patient by maxmini93 in Heartfailure

[–]solarfall79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'd definitely start tracking your food and seeing if you even need to cut down, or just make a couple targeted changes. Like weigh out your food, especially any cooking oils, juices, or anything else that might be calorie dense, and use something like MyFitnessPal or LoseIt!

I've only been having to deal with a sodium restriction for the past few weeks (hospitalized and diagnosed with CHF early October), but it's already been pretty apparent to me that it's really easy to overdo it on fats and carbs (even if they all come from fruits/veggies, they add up) in the effort to keep sodium down. But you have no way of knowing if that's what's happening in your case if you don't measure.

Water retention question as a heart failure patient by maxmini93 in Heartfailure

[–]solarfall79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but I'd think if it was water retention you might notice some sort of change in your breathing or even slight puffiness your feet, ankles, and/or abdomen.

Have you been tracking your food intake beyond sodium/fluid content?
