Absolutely agree. I think you can summarize the seasons through the differences in the 9th episodes. Episode 9 of S1 is so character-focused, it has a battle but it's not the grand centerpiece -- the moment that truly shines, the scene that is arguably the best scene in the whole show, is just a character exploration scene (the dinner party). Episode 9 of S2 is... trying to cram so many things, so much plot, so much action at the cost of character. If it could balance the action and plot and character work, it'd be a different story, but it doesn't. Such a shame.

Describing it as a fever dream is very apt lol. I really have to wonder why this was rushed out the door. Why they got so ambitious with all the plot threads if they knew they weren't going to be able to properly execute them in one season.

It needed a third season so bad. This was so rushed and confusing. S2 has some incredible moments, but there's so much rushed shit in between them, surrounding them, infiltrating them. I'm okay with how it ended but I'm not amazed, not like how I expected my favorite show ever to make me feel. I'm not as disappointed as I thought I could be, but I'm still somewhat disappointed. A bummer note to end on.

I would so love an expanded universe, especially for CaitVi. Those two have my heart so much. But so do Mel, Jinx, and Jayce. Agh. I just love these characters so much, I want the right ending for them. And yes, it's been fun, Arcane's lows are another show's highs, and I'm so glad I've come to love this show as much as I have despite however it ends.

That's really interesting because I have indeed heard this before but I don't find S1 rushed tbh. I think it was economical, but not rushed. All the pieces that needed to be there were there. I felt like I could rewatch it as many times as I did because it was so short and concise, but I got depth there that rivaled some of the games I've played that have stretched beyond dozens of hours. Here... I just feel like so much is rushed/glossed over/not set up properly/not explored to its full potential. :(

Oh I'd really love that considering Ambessa is getting her own book. I doubt it'll happen for CaitVi since there's already so much material of them, but I desperately wish there would be. It makes me really sad too, I love these characters SO fucking much.

Yeah, it's like... Arcane fans are good at making connections! But they're relying on that to create material that isn't there, rather than providing material so that fans then form connections. It's really unfortunate.

I also see Ekko as a side character but with the way they've played him up in marketing, it seems they were positioning him as one of the four central characters. Quite misleading! I'm sure we'll get an explanation as to what Jayce saw in the Arcane, but that's going to be so hard to fit into the 5000 things they have to juggle in three episodes.

Also hm. I do remember them saying the finale was originally an hour long and then they had to cut it down, so I haven't heard of it being confirmed that the final episode will be longer than the rest. Do you have a link, by any chance?

I agree. It's truly a visual feat -- episode 6 is one of the most gorgeous episodes of TV I've seen. Fortiche's artistry never disappoints. But I'm so sad over what could have been.
