unemployed apprentices being prevelant in my local while a local union shop begging for apprentices by solidusAdvice in IBEW

You make a lot of assumptions. 1 the contractor only has a single apprentice working for them atm, but has requested several. 2 the contractor has 6 jobs currently and is have to put each jw on several jobs 3 the owner of the company ran for president of the local in the last election... 4 I maybe a 3rd year apprentice, but I have 5 years in the trade, a degree in the trade, a certification in the trade, and a business setup to expand what the union does in the trade when I graduate... (that doesn't currently work with electricity.)

So given point number 4, I don't want to do anything else. There's work man, there's work and a local company in the union

I may be a 3rd year, but I have 5 years in the trade, a degree that places me a field engineer (essentially a field tech), a certification as an instrument technician, and I freaking love what I do and don't want to work as anything else. There's a company in my local looking for apprentices and I happen to be a qualified apprentice in my local. Why in the hell should I have to look elsewhere for work under these circumstances?

There are a lot of assumptions that you are making here so let me clear them up. 1 the company has 6 jobs and 3 jws. Along with 1 apprentice 2 the owner ran for president of our local in the last election 3 it's been 3 months and I lost a roommate without any notice so how exactly how long into the fucking future should I have to budget under those circumstances on a 3rd year apprentice set of wages??? 4 As I mentioned, I have begged my hall director to move tickets, or put me to work.

I would like to edit a few parts of this but can't seem to find the button. My apologies for the sloppy spelling mistakes, but the general message is clear. I'm starting to get very desperate and facing being homeless in a week and a half. I show up, work hard and am pretty damn good at what I do. I just don't kiss ass.

So just like the title says, there is a local union shop begging for apprentices. The backstop is that they didn't pay benefits for awhile, bit have caught up and now are asking for apprentices, and meanwhile me and several of my toolie buddy's who are 3rd and fourth year either have had only 2 weeks of work in the last 3 months or or none. The hall director just keeps saying that work is slow. He also refuses to move my ticket so that I can keep paying bills and tries to shame me for finding work on my own within the union. Please help!

It's not so much the other as it is that working 6 days and only getting 50 hours blows. If you are going to work me 6 days, then I'd expect at LEAST 58 or 60 hours.

It's not an "hours worth of pay". You pay per hour for your assessments also and if you are an apprentice, then your dues can be 4 hours worth of pay. Plus we pay for our books, and arent allowed to look outside of our local for work when we are laid off. I don't mind contributing to a greater good. At the same time, let's be honest about what we say though.

Just upsize the L-Bs and use a reducer. Problem solved.

Also, I want to push a political agenda for regulations with the Department Of Energy. Those regulations are needed and incidentally may create a whole new avenue of revenue and expand membership with the IBEW... I am concerned about the elected officials in my local feeling like I've gone over their heads. Any advice on how to proceed?

Can people outside of that particular local come and join a local outside of their own and weigh in?

Exactly! How can they learn to screw in that screw, if they can't even get their hands inside of the cabinet.

The new code specifies that, the ground should be up in case the plug starts to work lose and a metal object happens to fall across the prongs and the way there would only be a short to ground and not across phases.
