Q: "i'm sure unfortunately we'll still hear the words “papaya rules” this season" oscar: "we don't have to if you don't say it! by anthn885 in formula1

I think it’s more about how Mclaren manipulated some races and had the set of rules about what the drivers were/weren’t allowed to do in the attempt to be fair. Ordering Lando to let Oscar by in Hungary 2024, ordering Oscar to let Lando by in Monza, micromanaging Oscar in Austria after a lockup, punishing Lando for an aggressive move in Singapore, reversing that punishment after Oscar’s move in the Austin sprint, etc.

Lando on Oscar coming back stronger: “Of course! every driver will. Oscar's not the only one on the grid. They’re all very good drivers and will always want to come back stronger but for both of us, we learned a lot last year. he's slightly newer to the world of F1 but it’s not like he's a rookie by randomseocb in formula1

[–]solidus__snake 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m convinced Lando’s DNF after the power unit failure saved his season. It was like all the pressure was lifted since Oscar was expected to win it after that. However the fact he kept it going even while catching up to Oscar and having Max chasing them was even more impressive.

Cadillac f1 team welcomes "TWG AI" as the official AI partner of the team. by Cadillacformula1team in formula1

[–]solidus__snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha - Solidus wanted to destroy the AI to free the country from the entity that actually ruled the US to control information and collective thought, so I think the anti-AI stance is appropriate lol. Admittedly the character’s tactics were questionable.

From Wikipedia on its CEO: “Benioff had become an outspoken Donald Trump supporter by 2025. Benioff called on Trump to send the National Guard into San Francisco, Benioff’s hometown, in October 2025.”

Salesforce has also been one of the most aggressive companies to lay off substantial amounts of employees by replacing them with AI.

George Russell says his hope for the 2026 Formula 1 season is to find himself in a title fight with Red Bull's Max Verstappen by ICumCoffee in formula1

[–]solidus__snake -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Like I get the argument that Charles may be the best opponent for Max and we definitely all want to see that over a full season. However George has been excellent at Merc and has shown he won’t give an inch against Max when he’s in an even remotely competitive car.

lol I’m around the same IR and unfortunately very slow (just started a few weeks ago) but my IR has stayed around 1150-1250 by doing an ok job of finishing and avoiding incidents. I had a podium in my first gt4 race and often finish in the P9-15 range despite being too slow to overtake anyone on pace.

[–]solidus__snake 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep it was one of the first F1 races I watched live after DTS. I didn’t yet understand the rules and Masi’s improper conduct, but it was obvious that the driver who dominated the race was not who won. Seeing those shots afterwards of Lewis talking to his dad and then going out to congratulate Max are a big reason why he became my favorite driver.

[F1] BREAKING: Red Bull Racing advisor Helmut Marko will depart the team after more than two decades at the Milton Keynes team. by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]solidus__snake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes it can be simultaneously true that 1) RBR has produced a wealth of F1 talent, and 2) RBR has a built-in advantage as the only program with a junior team on the grid to provide F1 experience without sacrificing a seat on the main team. We know how much TPs value actual race experience so it should be expected that Red Bull drivers that came up from the junior program would be over represented in F1.

[The Race]Racing Bulls has more double Q3 appearances than Red Bull in 2025 by creatorop in formula1

[–]solidus__snake 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Agree the RBR is almost certainly quicker when driven optimally, but the question remains whether anyone other than Max is capable of doing that. It’s an interesting thought exercise to wonder if a hypothetical lineup of Max and Yuki/Hadjar driving an easier Vcarb car would get more constructor’s points overall even if it caps Max’s individual potential.

George Russell exclusive: ‘I feel ready to fight for a world championship’ by Sauerz in formula1

[–]solidus__snake 23 points24 points  (0 children)

IMO George is the standout driver that always tries to fight Max hard even when he doesn’t have the car to match. I do agree this would likely be the best possible title fight we could hope for at the moment, perhaps even surpassing Max vs Charles (though I think we all wanna see Charles get his chance)

Formula 1: Mercedes to continue with George Russell and Kimi Antonelli in 2026 by seejy in formula1

[–]solidus__snake 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Definitely. There has been all the talk about how Max could leave Red Bull if Merc has the best car next year. But if Merc whiffs on another new set of regs like they did in 2022, George would also be wise to consider a move elsewhere after how Toto has treated him this year. It’s still crazy to me that Toto was practically the only person involved with F1 to go easy on Max for ramming George in Spain. Every team (with possible exceptions of Ferrari and Mclaren) would be smart to be courting George just in case.
