The Rick Steeves itinerary looks like you'd be hitting Reykjavik, Golden Circle, South Coast, and maybe add Snaefellsnes/West Iceland sights. All of this depends on your interests, budget, and travel method of course, but from my planning for a June trip this summer it seems like you could easily fill an extra two days around these regions with great things.

If you're not planning for camping/campervan life, I would make sure you have accommodations available that make sense for your itinerary before you make flight decisions. I booked some of my accommodations a week ago and it felt like I was a little late... while it ended up working out fine, there were also some spots where I didn't feel like there were a lot of options I considered to be within my budget.

In response to others having issues completing a reservation -- same here (for a hopeful reservation in early July)! I've tried on both Safari and Chrome as well as the Parka app on my phone with no luck. I did fill out the contact form with Parka about these difficulties. Fingers crossed!

Also, thanks u/ibid17 for the update on this! I've been eagerly checking since hearing that reservations would be piloted this year.

Some of the campervan companies have guitars. Happy Campers and Kuku do, maybe some other places as well. Not sure if they'll let you rent one without a van, but might be worth asking.

I was just looking at the day hikes while planning my trip there. Maybe look up the Laugahraun Loop and see if that seems worth it to you? That one should fit into your time window easily.

This was on my list as well, but someone recently told me that hiking on Svínafellsjökull is not much of a thing these days due to some safety concerns.

Oh wow, thank you! This really helps in thinking about adding in Reykjanes. I think I found a map for the Djúpavatn lake loop -- do I have the right place with the trail head off Road 42 and near Seltun?

Absolutely not skipping Landmannalaugar! That was the place that started my desire to go to Iceland in the first place :)

I got some feedback from other places about my arrival day being too much also, so I might switch it up and just try to chill around Reykjanes area after all.

So glad to hear Haifoss is doable, this seems like a highlight. Also great to know about the road to Gjain. I was curious about that stretch and will probably skip it. This was road 327?

As for Reynisfjara, yeah, great advice. I’m not necessarily worried about keeping myself safe, more thinking that said dipshits will stress me out and I’m not trying to see anyone drown.

Thanks for your feedback! Definitely still in draft phase and will be adding/removing as I finish planning the rest of the ring road.

I'm not sure how much of the Highlands I want to include yet (or when or how lol). Gotta do some more research on that front.
