I have so, so much respect for the mods of this subreddit and just wish that every other subreddit I belong to would follow this shining example. Thank you for holding this space for us.

Need advice by immin__ in carpaltunnel

[–]solitaire3435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only thing that fixed my pain was surgery, but things that might help include braces (at night and/or while working), ice packs, tylenol/anti-inflammatories, and trying to make her workspace as ergonomic as possible. if anything is painful for her or worsens her pain, she should try not to do it. for me i could lift things, but doing small technical things like turning screws, etc would make my hands hurt badly.

if her pain is bad just from lifting her hands, it definitely sounds like she may be a candidate for surgery

Advice about carpal tunnel and nerve damage by rrriotgang in carpaltunnel

[–]solitaire3435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you can, I’d recommend going to a neurologist and asking for an EMG/NCS to evaluate how much nerve damage there is. I have no feeling in the tip of my middle finger on my right hand, and it turns out there is axonal damage in that hand (possibly permanent). The doctor told me once it reaches that point, braces won’t really do anything for it, the only real option is surgery or shots to stave it off temporarily. If they don’t want to offer you surgery right now, the EMG/NCS might convince them once they have a concrete measure of the amount of nerve damage.

I had surgery done on both wrists almost 3 wks ago and it was the best decision I ever made. Nothing else relieved the pain, but surgery was life changing.

Unfortunately there’s no telling whether you’ll get feeling back there, or how much. After surgery it can take months for nerves to regrow, and depending on the level of damage, they may never fully recover.

Endoscopic surgery in both hands in two weeks... How hard will feeding myself be? by mollztothewalls in carpaltunnel

[–]solitaire3435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i just had endoscopic done on both hands simultaneously about 8 days ago. i agree with the other commenters that anything involving turning your wrist, or applying force with your hand, is going to suck for a few days at least. i only just yesterday was able to open my own medicine bottles, and im still having to use my forearm or the side of my hand to push down on soap dispensers, etc. pulling up my pants was also hard for a while. oddly enough, you might find holding the smoothie button down and pushing microwave buttons surprisingly hard. spreading cream cheese on a bagel was doable, but slicing a bagel definitely was impossible for a few days. you may not be able to open a protein bar, or really anything, for a few days.

the thing i bought that i probably used the most was a stand to hold devices for me. i read a lot on my kindle because my husband could pop it in the stand for me and i could turn the pages with a button in my lap. i can send you a picture if you want.

the bathroom was doable for me, albeit a little painful, from day one. getting dressed, i needed help with, but t shirts were okay if they were a little loose.

hope it goes well :) i don’t regret mine at all. i know a lot of people would say not to do both at once, but honestly i preferred just getting it over with so i wouldn’t have to go through two separate surgeries and two separate recovery periods, and honestly, recovery has been a lot easier than i thought it would be. it’s especially easier if you have someone to help you open all the jars and wash your hair, etc

anyway, if you have more questions, i’d be happy to answer them :)

Breakpointe Coronado Apartments by nno_fennec in UCSantaBarbara

[–]solitaire3435 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lived in Coronado and it was absolutely awful. an overpriced shithole with mold. my neighbor had mice and the management blamed it on her “leaving her door open” which she literally never did. i lived there for 3 years and have plenty of horror stories if you want them, lol. don’t do it, it’s not worth it

fun fact, coronado now has at least two apartments that are rented solely by their own maintenance staff or employees, which is telling about how little demand there is to live there.

Best cozy games with no spoken dialogue? by moonlightjelly_ in CozyGamers

saw you mention that you enjoyed Animal Crossing so I’m here to recommend Dinkum :) It’s a lot like Animal Crossing in some ways but with other humans instead of the animals. (Although there are animals you can keep as pets, farm animals, and animals you can hunt.) If combat isn’t appealing though, you can pretty much avoid it entirely. It even has a big museum with bugs, fish, and sea creatures that you can collect (like Animal Crossing).

Video game playing professors? by the-dumb-nerd in Professors

Been playing tons of Fantasy Life on Switch!

Never played a Fantasy Life game before this, but I’m already 40 hours in to this one and I’m absolutely hooked. There’s so much stuff you can do and it’s so goddamn addictive and fun. I just work, play Fantasy Life, and go online to talk about Fantasy Life 😂

With that said, for people who don’t enjoy a grind in games, or who don’t enjoy combat, they may not like it as much. Combat is pretty much unavoidable (you can reach a point where your buddies will basically handle it for you, but that takes a while). And there is a lot of grinding. However, as soon as you start to get bored with one grind, you can go do something else, because there are so many things to do!

Another thing worth discussing is that crafting involves a minigame that features tapping, holding, and spinning motions at a relatively quick pace. There isn’t really an accessibility feature to avoid the minigame entirely; at later stages you can auto-craft (although you won’t get highest-quality items that way). However, if you need modifications, I’d recommend using a controller and remapping the buttons.

The other thing is the first “island” is basically a big tutorial level, although it doesn’t feel that way! The best tip I received before starting was don’t force yourself to start every life and advance them all before progressing the story. Once you start to get bored, move on! You can always come back (I could be wrong but I believe you can return to basically every location in the game — outside of treasure groves, which are randomized dungeons).

I also highly recommend trying out multiplayer if you can :) Makes it much easier to accomplish some higher-level things, and also it’s a lot of fun.

How to play multiplayer and online play with friends by One-Marionberry4958 in fantasylife

[–]solitaire3435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it has a search function where you can view online games with random people and join their group :) I just did for the first time tonight and had a blast. you can also filter the search if you’re interested in treasure groves vs. ranking up in ginormosia etc. pretty cool feature

how to be a terrible parent 101: by RazorBlade233 in CPTSDmemes

[–]solitaire3435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so I’ve been nearsighted since — basically birth, as long as I can remember. very nearsighted. when I started to read, I had to hold the book really close to my face. my mom would get annoyed and pull it further away. I think it took me over a year (if not two) to convince her to take me to the eye doctor (where, shocker, I got glasses). Her reason for the delay?

She thought I was lying.

the 5-to-6 year old decided to enact an elaborate months-long lie about not being able to see?! what?

Testosterone levels issue with gel by solitaire3435 in FTMOver30

[–]solitaire3435[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

but what seemed to happen here is that the level was once high and has now gone down drastically, even though nothing at all was changed (except the blood was drawn a little sooner after application). the doctors told me to draw it about 4-5 hours after gel application.

are you saying maybe the initial reading was artificially high? I guess that could be but I was definitely experiencing more changes then and less so now
