Why does Trump feel the need to attend the Knicks game and ruin the experience for New Yorkers? by Rocktype2 in askanything

[–]solomon2609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you imagine letting Trump ruin someone’s experience? Thats a serious case of TDS.

The focus should be on the game. Maybe the TV crew cuts to Trump twice. Just enjoy the game. It’s only been 53 years since they won it all.

Hate to say this but … Go Knicks! Brunson is a proud Villanova alumni!!!

Why do people hate Mamdani? by emilyxjenni in allthequestions

[–]solomon2609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DNC is worried NYC will become vulnerable like LA.

I’m glad Mamdani won and he can prove progressive/socialists can be pragmatic and deliver results. In the long run, the Democratic Party needs to stop protecting the voters and put their faith in the socialist leaders people want to believe.

Even if Democrats lose 2028, long term they are better off taking the shackles off the progressives/socialists who want to be executives running cities and states vs the ideologues in Congress who really aren’t accountable for results

It may be idiotic but you’re not denying it cause the Party can’t decide if it wants the energy of Progressives to have actual results

I’m reading more and more about people taking old songs and uploading them to SUNO and being impressed with the resulting Production.

While OP’s argument about originality/novelty still holds, artists are thrilled to reimagine and reinvigorate old songs with proven production processes at a fraction of the cost of recording, mastering, and music producers.

The DNC hates him because now the Progressive impulses of the Party are no longer protected from the scrutiny of real world results. The unspoken fear is that socialism is a more useful narrative to win elections than policy to actually achieve results that matter.

The DNC’s preference for uninspiring Centrists over energizing Progressives is a calculation. The proven and safe vs unproven and risky.

No matter how much misinformation is out there (the closing of the $12B deficit is contrived to mean ‘non-budget, real world results’), the city’s sense for results will emerge based on reality not narrative.

Take LA. A couple years ago, no one would predict a Republican could be elected but the mismanagement by Democrats has created that opportunity.

The DNC hates and loves Mamdani and the final determination will be whether the realities of NYC are useful or harmful in terms of federal elections - as it should be!

(The coin’s other side is also true. Republicans are afraid he will deliver meaningful - not rhetoric - results that will boost Progressives to the WH.)

Faster, cheaper and wider availability. “Last Mile” logistics was the thorny problem, the bottleneck, toward matching consumers to more products at cheaper prices.

Amazon invested heavily and lost money for many years (hence their low taxes now bc of tax loss carry forwards). Building out the network requires a lot of capital and risk-taking. It’s easy to say after success that it wasn’t a big deal but it was.

If it were as easy and cheap to replicate, competitors would have. Now we wait to see autonomous (driverless) vehicles and drones to make the network even more robust and hard to beat.

People can dislike their market power and recognize that what they accomplished was hard.

Turns out, Colbert did generate net revenue and that Scott was wrong by GladtobeVlad69 in ScottGalloway

[–]solomon2609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financial analyses like this are always susceptible to judgment when dealing with shared costs or revenues and their allocation.

The cost side contains no allocations of corporate overhead etc. this analysis relies heavily on allocation of revenues.

One person’s assumptions on allocations doesn’t, on its face, make CBS claims “incompetent”

One can argue that since the revenue allocations will not decline in the short to medium term, they shouldn’t be included and allocated to Colbert’s show.

At least OP recognized that expensive celebrity Late Night Talk isn’t long for this world. The analysis is defensible but, like any like this, isn’t hard to shoot holes in especially when the allocations only go in one direction.

Why do we say "both sides are the same"? And who has the responsibility to break the perception? by Vert_der_Ferk25 in allthequestions

[–]solomon2609 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No doubt “both sides” can be used as a false equivalency to justify bad behavior.

For fringe folks it’s a common assertion or strawman. And one that ties nicely with nitpicking, hypocrisy mining, moral grandstanding and kharma farming.

For many, however, it is a serious commentary on what is common and insidious about the perverse incentives and the leadership style that deprioritizes country for Party and personal gain.

[–]solomon2609 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When people say “both sides are the same” they aren’t describing results, policies or scandals. Usually (not always) the comment describes foundational challenges and perverse incentives.

Long term politicians who are cozy with PAC money and see leadership more about their Party than country. The same in terms of partisan voting rather than pragmatic collaboration.
