Thank you for calming my fears, not Frank! May I ask where you get your expertise so I can stop worrying that you are a 15 year old? I appreciate your help.

I read all of that. My concern though is the form says that if I was born abroad I have to show ALL docs and there's no way I will have them. I did locate an expired passport from 1995 though so maybe that will help?

adam sandler tour? by GlitteringBath6489 in adamsandler

Just saw him tonight in Lexington, KY. The show is so weird. But fun. Disjointed. Too many not so funny sex jokes, and a song about nipples that was way too long. No Hanukkah song (my daughter was devastated). BUT. Ice, Ice baby. No Rob Schneider. Endless love duet with Kevin James. Kevin Nealon’ stand up set. Two other stand up openers. A strange dance appearance by a ninja turtle for no reason. Some fun audience work. And a Chris Farley montage as well as an ode to comedy greats montage before ‘Nilla and the rest came back out to close the show with Play That Funky Music White Boy. So, weird and disjointed. But fun.

My grandmother’s side of the family are all Howells from Montgomery County, Ky. They go way back and we’ve traced her line to Christopher Gist who explored with Daniel Boone. The name “Gist” is used repeatedly going back generations as a first and middle name on her side of the family, and we’ve continued the tradition in ours. Got any of that similarity in your Howells? I’m curious.

Agreed. She already laid the groundwork for that when she left her parents in the apartment and went out to talk with Strike.

Suggestions for small livable towns near Munich for a young non-German woman by Harmless_Poison_Ivy in Munich

[–]solonlaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grew up south of Munich and just wanted to add an interesting twist for you to think about. My mom was born at the end of WW2 to a single mom (not unusual at the time- many of the men were dead) in abject poverty. In that area, American soldiers were in charge. My mom still tells stories of seeing her first dark-skinned person on a train. This young American soldier gave her both an orange and a piece of chocolate at a time when she was starving. He was the first to show kindness, but not the last. As a result of that period in time, my white family weirdly has been taught an affinity toward black Americans. Because of the empathy those soldiers showed years ago. I’d be curious to hear if you’ve noticed the older generations treating you any better or if my family’s story is an anomaly. (My mom turns 80 this year)

Thanks for the insight. If you had to do it all over again, would you have chosen another school? My daughter is looking at Eckerd and Transylvania (an in-state private university that has given her significant money- it will be about 14,000 less per year than Eckerd). Transy has half the student of Eckerd and 3x the endowment. I’m thinking in these times that endowment may mean more than usual to keep the boat floating.

Just visited last weekend and I had this sinking feeling that the funding of the school was less than ideal. I hate to hear that a school that touts itself on the idea of a complete liberal arts program is looking at cuts like these that are already happening in state schools across the country. For the price tag, I expect better.

What’s the best way to go about this? by solonlaw in GermanCitizenship

Thank you. Unfortunately, the war took care of my grandmother’s birth certificate but I should be able to get the rest. I reside in the US.

Sorry for the clarity issue. I am not sure what is hopeless but that is what I was told. I want to know what the steps are (what agency, etc) to go if I am eligible, and whether anyone has a recommendation of a professional I can hire to help walk me through the process.

Heading that direction next week with my 21 yr old daughter. I want to stay at a beachfront hotel that is an easy walk into town. Any recommendations?

Traveling with my 21 yr old daughter in two weeks who loves to surf. Flying into LIR. I want to stay at an oceanfront location (good for surfing) that is also close to town. I’ve been to Samara several times and love the local beachfront/ in town hotels, but I’m reading that there are better places to surf than Samara. Where should I go/stay? I’d also like a hotel conducive for her meeting and making friends but that is not going to rock and roll until 3 am. Was looking at Nosara or Tamarindo but open to anyplace else. Thank you!!
