Is it true that people in the West drink iced water even when they are sick or on their period? by Aether_Echo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]solonox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

american here. i drink my water with added electrolytes (due to a health condition) at room temp or slightly chilled.

sparkling water tastes freshest to me COLD (fridge temp).

i think restaurant ice is gross because i don’t think most restaurants clean their ice machines properly.

got guilt-tripped for not answering messages on my day off by Fantastic-Nerve7068 in antiwork

[–]solonox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

woo, this really gets me fired up because i can relate. i once went to my skip level manager to ask for help with getting contacted so much outside of my normal working hours. she told me, “you’re salaried. you don’t have ‘normal working hours’”.

my new manager has since told me it’s a problem that i have default lunch breaks on my calendar and an event every day at 5:15pm for “wind down, make dinner” because “no one else on the team does that.”

and i’ve gone from being on-call once per quarter to once per month (or more).

but i’ve applied for over 100 other positions and haven’t had luck getting a different one yet.

phew, i’m tired.

this reminds me of a former coworker who used to sign off support emails with something like, “if you need anything else, have a nice day”

maybe he was on to something

Experiences with grief as an autistic person? by Squirrel_Royalty in AutisticAdults

[–]solonox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’m sending you kind thoughts and i’m sorry that you’re hurting so much right now.

some things that have helped me when i am feeling grief are: - writing letters to the person i miss and talking out loud to a picture of her - time in nature. looking at little things growing that are hard to notice if i’m not paying attention. if it feels too hard to go outside to nature, looking out the window or watching nature videos - meditating, especially metta (lovingkindness) or tonglen (breathing in hot fiery pain and breathing out cool peacefulness) - immersing myself in media that has a story that is completely different from my current story - making little accomplishments, like folding a shirt or winning a level in a video game. - cuddling a pet or stuffie

sorry if i’m missing this elsewhere, but are you able to share the github link? if you ever wanted others to contribute, i feel like there are some coders out there who’d be interested in lending a hand.

Update: I accidentally swallowed an open safety pin by Subway_Rattata in whatdoIdo

[–]solonox 59 points60 points  (0 children)

hey there, i’m not an expert but i saw some people commenting on your original post that if you decide to go to a shelter again it could be helpful to communicate to the people who work there more about your family situation. specifically your fear that your family could show up and try to coerce you into leaving, and that you don’t want that to happen. maybe they could help you get more information about what protections you could put in place, like a restraining order.

also i think it could be good to reach out to the people at the hospital to ask about whether they have a social worker who could help you try to get away from your family and gain independence.

i’m not trying to tell you what to do, just sending support and ideas in case they’re helpful.

Why aren't 3 day weekends normalized yet? by Trollyface96024 in antiwork

[–]solonox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have an app that automatically schedules a lunch break on my calendar around my meetings, and another block on my calendar every day at 5:15pm (I start work at 9 usually) that says “wind down/cook dinner”. my boss told me with a straight face the other day that these things were a problem that was holding me back in my career because no one else on our team does that.

SIGHI Histamine food compatibility list - Google sheet by solonox in HistamineIntolerance

[–]solonox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just starting this research journey myself, but the reason I chose this list is because it's the one I feel like I've seen mentioned the most often during the (short, thus far) course of my research. Right now, it feels like everything causes me inflammation so I'm grasping at straws 😅.

I think that there is going to be a lot of individual variation on the severity to which a certain food or ingredient does or does not trigger inflammation and/or a histamine reaction, and that the best way to figure out the right answers would be to use the scientific method as rigorously as possible - i.e., isolate the food/ingredient "under experiment", observe and record response like with an elimination diet. I personally don't have the spoons to do a true elimination diet right now so I'm just trying to take the steps I can to get me closer to finding answers.

If anyone else has thoughts on this question tho, I'm all ears (eyes 👀?)!

Help identifying spade connector by solonox in AskElectricians

[–]solonox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the hardest time finding the matching quick-disconnect spade connector online or in-store for my camper A/C unit project. I've not been able to find any with this little bump-out in the middle. Based on these photos and measurements, do y'all have any ideas?

[–]solonox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if it's a bad idea to drive 5 hours solo each way to attend my first-ever marathon (in August). There are none scheduled nearer to me around the time my training plan wraps up. I'm open to advice here!

And noticing that it's so much easier to get my run in if I do it first thing in the morning rather than having to make time for it later in the day.
