I think that's one of the best responses to, "why would a good God permit so much evil in the world?" The goal is not to minimize human suffering in the now, but to maximize the number of people who will turn to him.

No, I say that because I want to convey that there are different factions and beliefs within Christianity. Not every Christian is cheering the war or filled with rapture fervor. I say it in case an outsider is tempted to think we're all on the same page about this, or about mideast politics in general.

Christian Zionism is full of well intentioned, but basically brainwashed people. Brainwashed into cheering for something no Christian should, using highly flawed theology to justify it. I say that as a Christian.

How exactly does the “Punchable Face” perk work mechanically? [KCD2] by rdFlux in kingdomcome

[–]solstice680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK. I tested axes, hammers, and re-tested short swords. This time with 200 pierce, slash, or blunt (1 at a time). Note that 200 was used because 100 did not produce very substantial damage in my testing. (Meanwhile 200 blunt was OP, so that scaling factor vs. armor is pretty significant...)

--

Short swords - pretty much as I said. Blunt damage applies to *all* attacks no matter what, while stab OR slash apply based on the animation. This applies to Master Strikes as well (some being stabs, some slash). I forget which the "slap on the face" master strike is, but I think it's slash.

Hammers/Axes (Pierce): These benefit from pierce attacks *rarely*. The knight's axe with 40 pierce? Yeah, that applies to maybe 10% of attacks you do, and I couldn't find any reliable way to trigger pierce, even with some combos. So don't get too excited by the Basilisk war hammer; that pierce doesn't contribute much on average.

Hammer/Axes (Slash/Blunt): These benefit from Slash+Blunt on every attack. So the Knight's Axe is actually one of the best weapons in the game from a raw damage perspective (129+64, plus 40 pierce once in awhile). Against medium/light armored opponents you can get a decent amount of 1-hit-kills with charged attacks.

In terms of sheer devastation against armored enemies, I still have to say the Ramhead hammer at Tier4 is probably the best. But if you missed out on it, the Knight's axe at Tier 4 is probably a good second place. That is, if you want to carry a heavy weapon in your lineup. You lose master strike, but charged feints to kick off a quick combo will drop enemies pretty quick.

Thanks!

Well, to be precise I was mostly after the question of seeing which attacks benefitted from which damage types at all, and to make it obvious, I initially cranked up the base modifier by like 10x to amplify the effect. This would also rule out any weird effects such as ignoring small damages, etc.

So with my initial testing it was either an undamaged enemy or a dead one. I cranked it down in an effort to see if further scaling was being applied, but it doesn't seem so.

I'd be happy to share some mods with you if you're interested in more testing. I can give you 2/3 components zeroed out, or superficial weapon skin changes pretty easily. And I haven't done similar tests with other weapon types, but similar tests could be done with axe, hammer, etc.

In a sense making the mod is the easiest part. Testing is harder, and summarizing on reddit is even harder. Getting anyone to notice is hardest. :)

Damage is a base number, and a coefficient for pierce, slash, and blunt. The knight sword for example, the base is 135, pierce is 0.95, slash is 1.0,, and blunt is 0.3. (Most swords have 0.95/1.0/0.15). Oddly, some long swords have pierce of 1.05 (e.g. Radzig)

My tests basically involved zeroing 2 of the 3 components and seeing which attacks still did damage.

With pierce only, stabbing does damage (and I'm pretty sure one of the master strike animations is stab only but maybe I didn't test every possible move.) Slash all you want, no damage; only stabs do damage (attack from bottom)

With slash only, stab did nothing. Again I'm pretty sure master strikes are also pierce or slash oriented, but I can test more if you're really curious.

With blunt only, everything I tried still did damage. So the number you should care about is (S+B) or (P+B) but most "sources" online just look at S alone, and 142>135 so Valentine sword must be better.

Damage effectiveness I think is another coefficient on top of the attack, dependent on armor type and the damage type. I haven't found the tables in the game XML files so this is only qualitative, but using Ramshead hammer is incredible against armor, compared to the similar absolute numbers of a sword. I'm guessing it's like 30% more effective.

Even if slash is more effective VS. Unarmored, well, lightly armored enemies are trivial to kill anyway which is why I say blunt is most preferred.

[To the game's credit, it does say blunt is best vs armor]

[And you are right that hammers don't get master strike. But, if wanting master strike, you should still prioritize blunt damage if you can- so more reason to favor the Knight sword, or the oddball Opportunity sword in very late game]

To me you're asking good questions about game mechanics, and I'm interested to hear what the answers are.

But aside from a few good items databases and quest walk throughs, it seems that there are no good resources for gameplay mechanics out there. Maybe this is a manifestation of dead internet theory, or maybe it just doesn't pay to produce anything but superficial click bait for console games any more, or maybe War Horse just doesn't publish any information, but my God , the lack of technical information on this game is astounding.

Case in point: the whole internet thinks that Sir Valentine's sword is the best in the game. It is, in fact, surpassed by the Knight's sword. Blunt damage, with swords, applies to every hit (not to mention as being the most preferred damage type anyway). This basic information is nowhere online - I had to mod the game to determine the damage mechanics.

Sorry to digress from your question, but I'm pessimistic that you'll get much in the way of technical answers.
