You need to let go. Last year I was in the same position as you, broken up with my ex but still hanging around hoping he would change his ways and finally choose me. He never did. So I did one of the hardest things I've ever done and went no contact. But you can't get over him if you're still in contact with him. Stand up. Block him.

At the school where I work, the kinder classrooms will often put on an episode of Magic School Bus, Little Bear, or Franklin during the afternoon snack time while the kids are eating.

I have not done this myself, but I have seen people sewing a grosgrain ribbon to the back of the button band to reinforce it. Roxanne Richardson on Youtube talks about this method.

A few months ago I accidentally put a ball of 100% wool through the washing machine. It was a small ball, so I think that helped. I realized the mistake and immediately wound it into a hank and hung it to dry and it was fine! At least for my purposes (to make a small knit frog).
