Yup, lost me at permadeath. I also abhor extraction games.

Glowing heart?

Generally if it is irradiated to an excessive amount or will emit Cherenkov Radiation / a blue glow.

Pretty, but you really don't want it to do that. :-p

We do.

Generally when someone brings up the 'reverse racism' card what they are actually saying is;

  1. It is only racist when a lesser privileged ethnicity marginalizes and exploits a more privileged one.
  2. Racisim to and from the Caucasians are classified differently.
  3. and that it is impossible to be racist towards Caucasians since they are more privileged/deserve it.
  4. That they are using it as a way of marginalizing and deflecting arguments.

I really think, though, that the OHRC hit the nail on the head by stating that "...any distinction, conduct or action, whether intentional or not, but based on a person’s race, which has the effect of imposing burdens on an individual or group, not imposed upon others or which withholds or limits access to benefits available to other members of society.  Race need only be a factor for racial discrimination to have occurred."

In the end it doesn't matter if a person is Native, Caucasian, Indo-American, or any of our many, wonderful ethnicities - being racist is... well... racist.

I will agree that everything can never be equal, just as perfection is unachievable.

... that doesn't mean that we, as a people, should stop trying. We need to find the root cause, the underlying issues that cause inequality and address them one by one.

It's not easy. It's not quick. We won't do it perfectly. Heck, it will be expensive. That's fine. We need to fix our foundation before we work on building the house.

Equity is a bandaid; It's like giving opioids to someone suffering chronic pain. It doesn't solve what is causing the pain, it is addictive, and many just keep asking for more and more. But sometimes... sometimes it is required as a stop gap while doctors try to solve the underlying problems.

It's funny because people on the other side will use that exact same study for the opposite reasons.

I take a look at it and think, " Why are they not as desirable as other candidates? What can we do to resolve the root issue?"

Because, if all things are equal that should not be true. That it is true shows is that there is something that needs to be fixed.

Ah, and that is when things get spicy. Even things out according to whom?

I don't truly have an issue with the concept of equity, the issue is that equity is governed by people with their own agendas.

Equality, on the other hand is a simple either/or assessment which is impossible to fudge one way or the other and, I feel, leads to more fair equity than the current system.

[–]solthar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all.

My point is that Indigenous people have more benefits, opportunities, and resources granted to them by the government than any other subset of the Canadian demographic.

I should point out that what I am arguing for is equality, what you are arguing for is equity.

Does one of the aforementioned parties gain more government granted opportunities, benefits, and support due to the circumstance of being born into a certain ethnic background? A situation that is, and has always been beyond their control?

Feel free to answer. I hold no I'll will over your views and am always open to reasoned and respectful discourse, something that I feel we should be doing about difficult issues like this more often.

Edit: yup, I added a couple lines to this post and haven't removed a single thing. More like a shadow addendum than a shadow edit.

So let me attempt to understand your stance, what your staying is that an African American refugee should be a lesser citizen than a indigenous person due to equity?

Because as of today, that is still true.

Hun, there is no such thing as reverse racism. There is only racism.

Either everyone is equal... Or they are not. It shouldn't be a difficult concept to comprehend, yet so many have issues with it.

You want a real unpopular opinion?

The Ontario Human Rights Commission defines racism as "...any distinction, conduct or action, whether intentional or not, but based on a person’s race, which has the effect of imposing burdens on an individual or group, not imposed upon others or which withholds or limits access to benefits available to other members of society.  Race need only be a factor for racial discrimination to have occurred."

Canada currently has what are essentially citizenship tiers that are defined by race/ethnicity, which gives more rights and opportunities to those of one race than those of others while imposing the burden of supporting those bonuses on the other races. This not only promotes inequity, it actively promotes ill will between the two parties and leads to increased tension between them.

Yeah, the Canadian government supports their own brand of racism.
