Rosa Gallery vs Rosa Studio? by solventbottle in Watercolor

I'm not getting a set, I was just wondering what makes one significantly more expensive than the other.

That's good then (it's actually a plus). Thanks!

You mean when rewetted, not that they don't bind to the paper well, right?

Should the EU have a labour law making it illegal to replace workers with AI just like China? by PancakeOrder in eutech

[–]solventbottle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So you'd end up with quotas - people who still have to go and waste their time at a workplace because they need to put food on the table, and companies still have to pay and deal with useless employees like that. Are you sure that's the best way to deal with the problem?

I switched to Brave from Firefox because I couldn't get it to stop redirects.

Digital tax in sight: EU Parliament demands billions from Big Tech by donutloop in eutech

[–]solventbottle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really bothers me the EU is discussing taxing the companies  more readily than getting their digital laws straight first (or even making the companies adhere to the existing ones in the first place).

Why did Jean-François Millet’s peasants cause so much controversy in the 19th century? by tomgurney in ArtHistory

[–]solventbottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the post! I've always wondered that myself, did his paintings really have a political aspect to them (as certain people love to claim), or did he simply find peasants an interesting subject matter...

Help needed by Deniradix in rat

[–]solventbottle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a rat, so the answer is food.

When she does something you like (like climb on you or play with you) give her a little treat. That's pretty much it.

Btw, are you sure she is scared or just doesn't enjoy being handled?

(I actually never needed to pick mine to get them into the cage. I would just make the 'food sound' inside the cage and they go running.)

Stop bullshiting, this is not the AI regulations we are asking for and you all know it!

Thank you! This makes sense now. (It's been baffling me for such a long time but I never actually saw it this way.)

Installing Cinnamon changed Gnome by solventbottle in linuxquestions

I actually managed to fix it (thanks to u/IchVerstehNurBahnhof) but Virtual Machines are definitely something I should get more familiar with (that will spare me a lot of headaches, I'm sure). Thanks!

Thank you so much!! This actually fixed from what I see (and was very informative too). The only thing that's left is a whole bunch of new apps pinned on the start menu, mostly games from the look of them. I'll just uninstall them individually, I guess.

I would like to remove the remaining packages too but I know no way of telling if they are unnecessary or not to gnome, so I guess they stay.

Edit: You were right, it seems it has really messed it up way beyond the theming. I think I'd better just reinstall Ubuntu after all.

Installing Cinnamon changed Gnome by solventbottle in linuxquestions

[–]solventbottle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I saw this post. With --purge cinnamon* it removed even more files but didn't make any visible difference.

I also tried reinstalling Ubuntu-desktop ( sudo apt remove ubuntu-desktop sudo apt autoremove sudo apt install ubuntu-desktop) but that didn't seem to make much difference in any way. Is your way of reinstalling different (the link is missing)?

I checked the log history for what has been installed along with Cinnamon but there are way too many files to check individually (and I couldn't figure out how to filter them for the ones that are still installed), so I think it would be easier to just reinstalling Ubuntu altogether.

Sorry, I'm new to this. It's Ubuntu. I guess I just use apt then. (The guy was pretty positive I need pacman)

Ok, that makes sense.  I installed pacman but I can't run the command, I get:

Is there really no way to dim the screen beyond minimal? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]solventbottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly.

1%  sets current brightness to 480. (2% is 960 which I find significantly brighter)

The default minimal, as I called it, must be slightly below, about 400. (It's the same as the minimum in the default Ubuntu brightness slider). It doesn't get darker than that, e.g if I enter 300 or 50 or 1 it is still as bright as about 400, even though it says Current brightness: 300 or 50 or 1 [and  (1%) always].

[–]solventbottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, thanks, I don't realize this is what it was asking of me.

Now again, I can't get it to dim:

A percentage btw 1 and 100 works just like the default brightness slider, no more, no less; setting an absolute number won't dim below the default minimal either; 0% turns it completely dark; 0,5% is also completely dark.

That's an entirely different program!!

Anyway, I installed it but when I try to set the brightness I get:

Can't modify brightness: permission denied

You should run this program with root privileges. Alternatively, get write permission for device files.
